Chapter 447 A Visit to the Past
Only now did Sierra realize that life didn’t always have to be about pushing forward and working hard. Sometimes, it was okay to pause and enjoy the scenery along the way.
And it was all because of Johnathan. She had never known how beautiful the road could be.
“Thank you.”
Unable to hold back, she hugged Johnathan tightly. The two of them kissed under the stars.
A month later, Sierra and Johnathan took a private plane back to Capital City.
The moment they stepped off the plane, the winter chill rushed in, and S.
shivered.
Johnathan took out a coat and draped it over her shoulders.
“It’s deep winter now. Don’t catch a cold.”
“Mm.”
Sierra held Johnathan’s hand as they got off the plane.
After being away for a month, returning here made Sierra feel like a lifetime had passed.
The first thing they did was return to the old family house. Wayne glanced at them and said, “Come back for dinner this weekend.”
It was time to announce some things.
Johnathan understood exactly what the old man meant and nodded.
He had once resented his grandfather, but after everything that had happened, he’d let it go.
After leaving the house, Johnathan checked the time–still early–so he brought Sierra to the cemetery.
It was the first time Johnathan brought Sierra to visit his mother’s grave. They stopped to buy a bouquet of flowers, but when they reached the grave, they discovered someone had already left a bouquet there. Judging from the freshness, that person had just been there.
Johnathan’s expression changed. “Wait here a moment.”
He quickly walked off–probably hoping to catch a glimpse of whoever it was.
Sierra was curious too. It wasn’t a special day. Normally, no one should be visiting.
She placed the flowers they had bought in front of the grave. In the photo, Johnathan’s mother was smiling brightly.
It was hard to imagine how someone so beautiful could choose to leave the world in such a decisive way.
Not long after, Johnathan came back. From the look on his face, it was clear he hadn’t found anyone.

“There’s no security camera?” Sierra asked.
“They’re checking now, but haven’t found anything yet,” Johnathan replied as he moved the bouquet the- other person had left to the side.
It was a bunch of wintersweet–not a typical flower for mourning. But very few people knew that wintersweet had been his mother’s favorite.
Whoever left it must have known her very well.
Suppressing his suspicions, Johnathan pulled Sierra down beside him and knelt three times in front of the
grave.
He didn’t speak–just stared silently at the photo.
Sierra quietly said, “I’ll wait over there.”
She figured Johnathan must have a lot he wanted to say to his mother.
What she didn’t know was that this was the first time in years Johnathan had visited his mother’s grave.
At first, he couldn’t accept her death. And in the years that followed, he didn’t want to come. Every time he thought of her, all he could remember was watching her die right in front of him.
Johnathan stayed silent for a long time before he finally spoke.
“Mom, I got married. I used to think I’d be alone forever–until I met her. I really love her. She made me realize that life actually means something. I’m sorry I haven’t come to see you all these years. I never really knew what you went through… what made you leave me behind.”
The truth was, back then, he hated everyone.
He hated Chase, hated Susie, hated their child, hated everyone around him. But the one he hated most was his own mother.
He couldn’t understand how she could be so cruel–how she could leave even him behind.
She had said that he was the person she loved most in the world.
If that was true, then why couldn’t she hold on just a little longer? Chase and Susie weren’t worth falling
apart over. Was it really that big of a blow?
That’s what he had thought all along–until recently.
Now he believed otherwise.
He had come to realize there were a lot of things they’d kept from him. And those hidden truths might have been the real reason she died.
“Mom, I’m going to get to the bottom of it. They won’t fool me.”
With that, Johnathan stood up and added one last sentence:
“If your spirit’s still out there, help me protect her. She’s more important than my life.”

Johnathan had once said his mother loved painting–that she was a well–known artist–but single trace of her work or name on the internet.
Sierra also felt like there was something strange about Johnathan’s family.
