Chapter 18
“There were no surveillance cameras near the pool, so we can’t reconstruct what happened,” Sebastian said calmly. “But I’ve already sent someone to investigate.”
“Investigate?” Vivienne looked at him with interest. “And how do you plan to do that?”
His tone remained composed. “Since there’s no footage, we’ll have to rely on eyewitnesses.”
Eyewitnesses?
Vivienne thought of the crowd that had just stood by while she drowned.
Not a single person had helped her. They had only watched and mocked her. Even if someone had seen what really happened, they would likely pretend otherwise. Her voice grew raspier. “Mr. Holt, do you really believe I would jump into that cold pool just for fun?”
“Mia said you were angry when you found out I was treating Melanie’s injury, so you jumped in to stage a scene and pin the blame on her,” Sebastian replied. Vivienne’s gaze turned icy. “Do you think I’d risk my life just to frame Mia? Is she even worth it?”
Her voice was full of disdain and contempt.
Sebastian’s brow twitched slightly, but he kept his composure. “Let’s wait for the investigation results before jumping to conclusions. You’re still weak–you shouldn’t stress yourself.”
A flicker of emotion passed through Vivienne’s eyes. She stared at Sebastian’s handsome yet indifferent face and suddenly said, “Sebastian, don’t tell me… Are you trying to find a way to excuse Mia?”
If Melanie had pleaded for Mia, it wouldn’t surprise her at all if Sebastian complied. In his heart, Vivienne had always come last.
Sebastian’s dark eyes remained serene. “Focus on recovering first

A hint of mockery flickered in Vivienne’s eyes. She didn’t say another word and simply closed her eyes. Sebastian stayed a while longer, then left after receiving a
call.
Not long after, Jason arrived. “Vivienne, how are you feeling now?”
Vivienne looked listless. “I’m still alive.”
Seeing how frail she was, Jason asked in a low voice, “So, what do you plan to do about this?”
“Was there really no surveillance footage from the pool garden?” Vivienne asked.
“There was one camera, but branches blocked it. Nothing was captured.”
Vivienne gave a cold smile. “Mia’s luck is truly something.”
jason said, “Even without footage, I have ways to get her to confess.”
Vivienne shook her head slightly. “There’s no need. I can handle this matter myself.”
“By the way, Mom and Dad called yesterday asking how you’ve been.”
Her nose stung, and she nearly burst into tears.
At home, Vivienne had been their treasure. Here, she had become a weed, trampled by anyone.
In a low voice, she said, “They’re getting old and aren’t in great health. Don’t tell them anything for now. Once I divorce Sebastian, I’ll go back and explain everything myself.”
In the past, Vivienne had been too sheltered. She had never encountered such vile behavior. The things Melanie and Sebastian had done completely shattered her previous understanding of people.
At first, she only wanted to explain herself–to make others believe her. But now, she had grown up.
Jason knew she was capable of handling things on her own and nodded gently.
“By the way,” he added, “when I visited you earlier, Sebastian kept asking about my relationship with you.”
