Chapter 21
“So what if I did push Vivienne? I was just playing a little prank! The pool was so shallow–how could she nearly drown? Isn’t she just pathetic?” Mia exclaimed..
“You just said she jumped in herself. Now it was a prank?” Sebastian’s gaze turned cold.
Mia’s expression shifted, but she snapped back, “Fine. I admit I pushed her because I couldn’t stand her. So what? How was I in the wrong?
“If it weren’t for her tricks back then, you and Melanie wouldn’t have been separated for three years! And Vivienne’s been insufferable lately. She’s always bullying Melanie, and she even upset Mrs. Holt Senior so much she ended up in the hospital.”
Mentioning this gave Mia more confidence. “I just wanted to teach that bitch a lesson for Melanie’s sake. I did it alone. This has nothing to do with Melanie. If you’re angry,
take it out on me.

But Sebastian’s handsome features were frosted with chill. He opened his mouth and said in a voice devoid of warmth, “Whatever happens between Vivienne and me doesn’t need outsiders meddling.”
Hearing that, Mia’s face went pale. Even Melanie’s expression darkened.
“Sebastian,” Melanie said softly, “Mia probably just acted on impulse.”
Sebastian’s tone remained cold. “So, she wanted to kill someone on impulse?”
Mia scoffed. “It was just falling into water! No one dies from that.”
“Don’t you know Vivienne’s afraid of water?”
A flicker of guilt flashed in Mia’s eyes.
At Regina’s birthday banquet, Vivienne had accidentally been pushed into a pool by a child, and her reaction then had been intense. Although she’d been pulled out quickly, her fear of water was obvious.
Now, facing Sebastian’s icy stare, Mia instinctively took a few steps back.
Sebastian said suddenly, “Mia, give us a moment.”
With a guilty expression, Mia quiet clipped away. Once she left, the atmosphere turned cold and silent.
Sebastian showed no intention of speaking.
“Sebastian, this time… Mia was indeed in the wrong,” Melanie said, her eyes fixed on his handsome face. “What happened three years ago left her with some prejudice toward Vivienne. That’s why she acted impulsively and made such a reckless mistake. I suppose… I share part of the blame.”
Her voice was tinged with sadness. “I promised her we’d open a dance studio together, but then… my leg her, but I didn’t keep that promise either.”

Melanie added softly, “Sebastian, I’ve never asked anything of you all these years… Mia is my only friend. Please… give her another chance.”
When Sebastian returned to the hospital room, the broken glass had already been cleaned up.
Vivienne was sitting up, reading, and didn’t even lift her head at the sound of footsteps
“I spoke to the doctor,” Sebastian said, his voice calm and pleasant. “You’ll be discharged in two days.”

At that, Vivienne slowly raised her head. Her gaze was unreadable as she looked at his elegant, handsome face,
“Sebastian, if you’ve got something to say, just say it. But if it’s about Mia, don’t waste your breath. Even though the surveillance cameras didn’t catch it, someone was filming – and they got the whole thing.”
She had long since stopped expecting anything from him. Naturally, she hadn’t waited around for him to investigate.
