“Look at this-”
Gavin slapped the drive out of my hand.
“What are you trying to accuse her of?”
“Tiffany is only staying for one night.”
“Why are you so jealous?”
Г
Gavin looked disappointed.
“How did you become like this?”
He repeated himself.
“Where did you go?”
I paused, then coldly said, “It’s none of your
business.”
The air went dead.
I felt uneasy and looked up.
Gavin was in front of me, pinning me against
the wall.

Gavin’s eyes were bloodshot, and the veins in
his forehead were throbbing.
“Is this because that redneck told you to go
back?”
I was lost, wanted to ask what redneck he
was talking about.
Suddenly, I saw a face.
He meant Hunter Jones, a friend from my
hometown.
He saved my life in the lake when we were
kids, and we stayed in touch even after I was
adopted.
Gavin had always mocked our relationship.
One summer, Hunter drove all the way to the
city to bring me some fruit.
Gavin saw him, didn’t say anything.
Then, he waited until I was asleep and threw
all the fruit into the dog’s bowl.
He grabbed my hair and told me to act like a
lady.
Hearing the harsh words, I pushed him away.
“It’s not your business.”
Gavin was red in the face.
He nodded repeatedly.
Г
His hand cupped my breast.
“Not my business? Then who was it begging
me not to leave?”
“Who was crying, trying to make me feel
bad?”
“Who was getting naked and climbing into my
bed in the middle of the night?”
Hearing his words, I realized what a mess I’d
been.
I smiled softly, not the angry, hysterical
reaction he expected.
“It won’t happen again, don’t worry.”
Г
Gavin stared at me as I turned away, his voice
cold.
“I’ll give you a few days to think. Apologize to
Tiffany, or don’t bother coming back.”
I proved him wrong.
I rented a room, focused on my studies, and
ignored his calls.
When I left the exam room, my phone was
flooded with texts.
From classmates, from teachers.
“Kayleen, Tiffany reported you for scholarship
fraud.”
<
“Come to the school immediately!”.
“Miss Kayleen, there may be a problem with
your scholarship.”
“Please come to the school.”
Right before graduation, I had to study for
certifications and finish my thesis, and now
this.
I laughed coldly and took a cab to school.
I saw Tiffany crying, and the teacher and
classmates consoling her.
I knew what was going on.
Tiffany saw me and stood up, shaking like a
く
leaf.
“Kayleen, you did this to me.”
“I can’t let someone like you get a
