Chapter 1
Snow staggered back, almost losing her balance. In an instant, her eyes flickered with malice, but she quickly hid it behind an innocent, pitiful expression.
“Sister, what are you doing?” she asked, her voice trembling
“This necklace was given to me by my godfather on my coming of age ceremony, and many people witnessed it,” she added, her tone pleading.
She called my father “godfather,” a title she had used for years. However, the truth was, my dad, Mike Francis, was not her godfather. He had married into my family when he was nothing but a poor young man, and with my mother’s help, he rose through the ranks of Chester Norris‘ company, becoming the president of Goods Group.
The imperial green necklace was my mother’s favorite piece of jewelry. Even my father, Mike Francis, had no right to give it away.
I took the necklace and glanced at Snow, my voice dripping with disdain. “My mother only had one daughter–me. I don’t have any sisters, so don’t go pretending to be one.”
Guests began to gather around, drawn by the commotion.
In front of everyone, Snow held her chest and feigned disbelief, “Bella, how can you treat me like this? Dad will be angry when he finds out!”
She had just called him “godfather,” but now, in front of the crowd, she dropped the “god” title entirely. Her ambiguous address made people believe she was the true heir of Goods Group.
Whispers filled the room.
“I’ve never heard of a second heir to Goods Group. Why does Snow call her “sister?”
“I heard from the elders that years ago, the chauffeur of Goods Group died in an accident. Mr. Francis felt sorry for his young daughter and took her in as a goddaughter. They even arranged for her mother to work as a housekeeper. It was a well–known, heartwarming story back then.”
“How ridiculous! A housekeeper’s daughter, treating the real heiress with such disrespect!”
I had always disliked t pocrisy of high society and kept my distance from them. After my mother passed away, I moved overseas with my grandfather to escape the painful memories.
No wonder these people couldn’t recognize me.
Before I could respond, Ms. Mars, the housekeeper, suddenly rushed over.
“Bella, stop causing trouble!”
“You remember what happened the last time you had a dispute with Snow over som
some clothes? Mr. Francis even

Ms. Mars, acting as though she were kindly looking out for me, tried to pull me away.
In the past, I had always treated Ms. Mars as a senior figure due to her husband’s death in service to the company. and I had always been respectful toward her and Snow.
But now, it seemed that all that kindness had fed their ambitions. They thought they could push me aside and take my place.
I forcefully pulled away from her grip and snapped coldly, “Ms. Mars, are you mistaken? This is my house, and your daughter is the one causing all the trouble!”
“It was my mother who took in Mr. Francis’s chauffeur’s daughter, Snow, and brought her into our home to work as a housekeeper. How has Snow repaid us?”
“While I was away, she took over my room, stole my things, and even tried to claim my mother’s belongings as her
own!”
“Now, why don’t you tell everyone here who the real heiress of Goods Group is?”
Ms. Mars was taken aback, stumbling over her words, unable to offer a coherent response.
Just then, Snow stepped forward, positioning herself protectively in front of Ms. Mars,
“Bella, it’s just a necklace. Why make such a big deal over it?” Snow said with feigned grace. “I’ll give it back to you. Today’s my birthday, and I don’t want any trouble. Let’s call it quits here.”
Her words were full of false humility, presenting herself as the long–suffering person who was only concerned about keeping the peace.
The guests, still unaware of the truth, began to praise her.
“Look at Snow, she’s so understanding!”
