Chapter 6
“Jackson is really generous,” he loosened his tie, “he actually personally delivered such a beauty like you to me.”
Shania struggled hard, but he easily subdued her.
He pinned her down, his fingers tracing her cheek, “Do you know how long I’ve been thinking about you?”
“Let go of me…” Shania’s voice trembled, “Don’t touch me…”
Seeing her trembling with fear, Desmond suddenly smiled and ran his fingers over her face, “Here’s the deal, I’ll give you a
chance. You call Jackson, if he answers, I’ll let you go.”
Shania trembled as she dialed Jackson’s number.
But, one time, two times, three times…
Over a hundred calls, and no one answered any of them!
“Did you see that, Shania? Now, in his heart, you’re worth nothing.”
“You follow me, I make you happy.”
Desmond grinned wickedly and forcefully tore at her dress.
Seeing that he was about to charge in, Shania finally woke up and grabbed the vase from the bedside table, smashing it
hard on Desmond’s head.
He groaned and fell down, she took the opportunity to escape.
It was pouring rain at night, Shania ran back home stumbling.
She was soaking wet, with bruises left by Desmond all over her body.
The moment she pushed the door open, she saw Katherine crying in Jackson’s arms.
“Did you really give up your wife’s life for me?”
Jackson wiped away her tears, “Yes, in my heart, you are the most important.”
Katherine cried even harder, he helplessly held up her face and said, “Hey kiddo, didn’t we already save you? Why are you
still so scared?”
“Who wasn’t afraid of being kidnapped…”
Jackson smirked and said, “I have a way to make you stop being afraid.”
“I don’t believe…”
“I’ll give it a try?” he laughed.
With that, Jackson leaned down and kissed Katherine, pressing her down on the sofa.

Shania saw this scene with her own eyes, and her heart hurt like it was being ripped apart.
She turned around and walked away, the rain instantly soaking her whole body.
She didn’t know how long she had been running until she stood in front of that familiar old house.
This was the place where she and Jackson grew up together since they were kids. Their families were once close friends,
they were childhood sweethearts, living in two neighboring villas.
Rain dripped down her hair tips as Shania walked to the old locust tree in the backyard.
She still remembers, when she was eighteen, she and Jackson buried a time capsule here, and agreed to dig it up
together in ten years.
“Nia, ten years later we must have been married.” Young Jackson smiled brightly, putting a letter into the iron box, “I wrote
a letter to my future self, telling him to always love you.”
Shania knelt on the muddy ground, digging into the dirt next to the tree roots with her bare hands.
Her nail broke, blood oozed from her fingertip, but she didn’t feel any pain.
The iron box had rusted, but the letter inside was still intact
She unfolded the letter, trembling, and saw the handsome handwriting of young Jackson on the paper.
“28-year-old Jackson:
If you dare not love Nia, 18-year-old me would definitely not let you off the hook.
“Remember, she was your destiny.”
The rain splashed on the letter paper, smudging the ink.
Shania stuck the letter to her chest, crying uncontrollably.
She really misses that boy who used to write love letters to her with a red face, that Jackson who promised to protect her
forever.
“He broke his promise… he broke his promise…”
She cried and said to the air, as if 18-year-old Jackson could hear.
She sat under the tree for a long time, until the rain stopped.
She took out the ninety-eighth love letter from her bag and lit it up.
