A week later, I went to the Finn family party.
Preston had gotten there first, with Brianna.
She had a bandage on her forehead, but she
was as cocky as ever.
“Oh, Sugar Plum, what a coincidence. Are you
here to find a rich guy? I know Finn pretty
well. Since we’re friends, I can put in a good
word for you. Have him introduce you to
some of his friends.”
She was smug and provocative.
I sighed. “Why are you so small–minded and
full of yourself?”
Brianna’s face changed. When she saw

everyone hates you. Who are you trying to
impress?”
“What’s going on?” Preston walked over,
glanced at me, and smiled at Brianna.

“I heard that you and Sugar Plum used to be
close, so I came over to say hi. But Sugar
Plum doesn’t seem to like me much,” Brianna
said sweetly.
Preston scoffed. “That was a long time ago.
Don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault she
doesn’t like you. Don’t try to please
everyone.”
He is protecting the female lead and putting
down the female lead. Let Preston be the

Brianna gave me a smug look, and I walked
away.
Suddenly, I ran into the Zhao son from the
last party. He had cuts and bruises on his
face and ran away from me.
I frowned and turned to look.
Finnegan was there. Brianna went up to him,
smiling.
“Finn, this party is so fancy. I’m so happy to
be here.”
Finnegan frowned. “Don’t get any ideas.”
Brianna froze.
Finnegan walked towards me. When he saw
my face, he panicked. “Sugar Plum-”
Preston saw Finnegan snub Brianna. Brianna
saw Preston’s expression change and put on
a pouty face.
Preston walked over, with Brianna. Brent and
Simon were there too.
“Why did you say that to Brianna?” Preston
demanded.
Brianna bit her lip. “It’s okay. I don’t know
what she told him, but something must have
gotten the wrong. I don’t know… Sugar Plum,
do you hate me?”
Preston looked at me, laughing. “Always
picking on the little one, huh? You shouldn’t,
Sugar Plum.”
“Preston, shut up!” Finnegan warned.
