Almost a Wife 39

Chapter 5

The whole scene fell silent.

Zackary’s eye twitched, revealing astonishment.

In a moment, Arabella adjusted her expression, looked around, and spoke with a hint of apology, “I invited everyone here today to clarify this.”

Daisy’s father passed away before she was born. He spoke without reservation but also hoped that everyone would

educate their own children well.

Parents were not heartless people either, upon hearing this, they came over one after another to offer comfort.

Gina hesitated and said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know…”

Arabella interrupted indifferently, “It’s not something worth apologizing for.”

Apart from this little incident, the birthday party went smoothly.

Daisy played the role of a gracious host and took good care of every child.

Watching her small and busy figure shuttling back and forth, Arabella’s eyes became moist.

Her child, it did not deserve this.

The birthday party came to an end, and the guests left one by one.

Daisy sat absentmindedly on the love-shaped swing, staring at the ground.

This was made by her little by little using flowers, wanting to take many beautiful photos with Zackary.

But now, not to mention photos, even Zackary is just holding onto that Rosa and not letting go.

Arabella walked over and squatted in front of Daisy, asking gently, “Did Mom take a photo of you?”

In just one second, Daisy’s tears burst forth, hiding in Arabella’s arms and sobbing softly.

Arabella was so heartbroken that she couldn’t catch her breath, holding her tightly.

The two of them sorted out their emotions, and it was already an hour later.

Arabella led Daisy home.

The house remained empty and desolate.

On the table, there was only the surprise she had left for Daisy, Zackary even skimped on leaving a birthday gift.

Zackary hurriedly left the birthday party midway, and nobody knew where he went.

it was no longer her concern.

Now, there are only nine days left.

In a home that has been living in for six years, there are too many trivial matters.

After Arabella had put Daisy to sleep, she began to tidy up by herself.

Most of the daily necessities were left for Zackary to use.

Towels, bath towels, toothbrush cups, slippers…

Some people never got to use it, even until it was broken.

11 p.m.

Arabella finished throwing the second wave, stepped out of the elevator, and locked eyes with Zackary.

He twisted the handbag in his left hand, while his right hand was about to knock on the door.

Trey smirked arrogantly. His eyes squinted into slits. “Yeah, there was this little brat when I was hitting her, she almost

knocked me down.”

He certainly did not have the key.

After a big argument at that time, he broke the key into two halves and rushed into the kitchen drain.

Arabella stepped past him and blocked him at the door, saying, “Daisy is asleep, so just say whatever you need to say

here.”

Zackary furrowed his brow, what was going on, she had never treated him like this before.

The confusion flashed through his mind, and he casually spoke again without paying any attention, “I planned to stay

here tonight.”

He thought that women would be grateful and appreciative.

After all, this was what she had been looking forward to the most, being like an ordinary family, having three meals a day,

and putting the children to bed together at night.

Arabella felt a sharp discomfort in her heart.

The treatment she had once dreamed of, she now only had complex emotions left.

“Goodbye, there is nothing at home that you could use.”

A few days ago, Arabella could never have imagined that she would one day refuse Zackary.

She still felt heartache, still felt hurt.

But I wouldn’t let myself fall step by step.

There was a hidden meaning. “Not anymore.”

“Is it because I didn’t go to the birthday party today?”

“Did you teach Daisy to say that her father died? What was your purpose?”

Her polite refusal was met with three aggressive follow-up questions from him.

Arabella curved her lips and lifted her gaze, silently staring at the person who had wasted fifteen years of her life.

He seemed to have changed yet seemed unchanged.

I used to like him for his carefree and unrestrained nature, but as time went by, this carefreeness became more mature and reserved.

Just Arabella, no longer lingered with him.

She calmly asked back, “Did Daisy say something wrong?”

“What difference does it make to you, to her, to this home, and to the dead?”

Arabella’s mouth didn’t stop, unlike the words she could say.

Zackary frowned, unable to believe that she would defy him like this.

“Since you had so many complaints, why didn’t you get a divorce?”

“Okay, leave then.”
