My parents were heartbroken for me after hearing what I had gone through.
Dad said, “Good. You have to learn to love the hard way. Only then you’ll realize just how much we’ve been protecting you all this time.”
However, I also noticed how the veins on the back of his hands were bulging. His expression was so dark it seemed like he was ready to drag Lawrence over and beat him up on the spot.
Mom gave me a hug while comforting me. “Alright, let’s stop thinking about those upsetting things now that you’re home. It’s just one diamond necklace. I’ll get you a few more tomorrow so that you can wear a different one every day if you want to.”
The heaviness in my chest from recalling the past was washed away all of a sudden. I broke into a smile through my tears and finally got a good night’s rest that night.
The next morning, my phone was bombarded with a bunch of missed calls from an unknown
number.
I was used to sleeping with my phone in airplane mode. As soon as I disabled it, over 99 missed call notifications came flooding in, chiming one after another endlessly.
My phone started ringing the next moment. I tentatively answered the call. After all, the person behind this unknown number seemed stubborn.
“Hello?” I asked.
A familiar voice came through the line shortly after. “How long are you planning to keep this up, Mirabelle? You moved out of the apartment? Where are you staying now, then? Ivy has already decided to let the whole thing go, and I won’t ask you to apologize to her anymore. As long as you

Lawrence suddenly held onto his breath on the other end of the line. But I continued, “We’re over. Did I make myself clear this time? Did you get me now?”
I ended the call without waiting for his reply. I then blocked and deleted the unsaved number.
It was barely the start of the day, yet Lawrence had already found a way to ruin my morning. How
annoying.
