Chapter 5
When Dominic brought Regina back to the villa, it was ten o’clock at night.
He walked straight to the master bedroom on the second floor. The door was closed.
“Riley,” his voice was softer than usual, “I mentioned earlier about bringing Ginny home to recover…”
“It’s partly because you pushed her at the photo studio. In her condition, I can’t leave her alone, so I had to bring her back sooner than planned.”
His knuckles rapped against the door, producing a dull sound.
He continued, “I told you before about moving to the guest room for a few days-”
Before he could finish, Regina suddenly began coughing softly beside him.
Dominic immediately turned, but froze as he gripped the doorknob.
The master bedroom door… wasn’t locked.
The darkness seeping through the crack made his heart tighten.
He gently pushed the door open.
Moonlight poured in through the floor–to–ceiling windows, illuminating a perfectly made bed. No movement, no sign that anyone was there.
“Dominic…” Regina called timidly, “Is my sister still angry with me?”
Dominic snapped back to reality and let out a cold laugh. “Well, she’s learned to throw tantrums. Good thing, actually–saves us from making her move to the guest room in person and hurting her pride.”
He loosened his tie irritably. “Don’t worry, she’ll be back tomorrow.”
He sounded certain, yet failed to notice the emptiness in his own emotions.
Downstairs, he frowned at the housekeeper: “Mrs. Thorne didn’t come home today?”
“I’m not entirely sure…” the housekeeper kept her head down, “but she left her keys on the dining table.”
Dominic’s brow had barely furrowed when Regina’s sudden “Oh!” startled him..
He turned to see her eyes reddening: “It’s all my fault… Did she leave this home–leave you–because I took her place?”
Dominic rubbed his temple: “She knows you’re recovering. Don’t overthink it!”
As he helped her to the sofa, he noticed the wedding ring on the coffee table. His heart skipped a beat as he

wondered, “That wedding ring I bought without much thought… she treasured it for three whole years, carefully removing it even when bathing or cooking…”
And now, it just lay there silently on the coffee table…
“Cough, cough…” A gentle coughing fit disrupted Dominic’s thoughts.
He quickly helped Regina upstairs to rest.
It seemed that as long as he didn’t look at that ring, nothing had changed.
The next morning, Dominic had just opened his eyes, his voice still raspy from sleep: “Riley, I have an international meeting today. I need to wear-”
He stopped mid–sentence.
He’d nearly forgotten–Riley had left home in anger last night.
Throughout their married years, whenever he was home, she would always have his suit pressed and ready, appearing at the sound of his voice.
But today, lying beside him was another woman who needed his care.
She looked beautiful in sleep, yet somehow, he found himself unable to appreciate it.
He had to get up and go to the closet himself.
As the motion–sensor lights gradually illuminated the space; he was shocked to find half the closet empty.
“Dominic?” Regina suddenly appeared at the doorway in a silk nightgown. “I checked flight tickets…”
The woman’s lips moved, saying something.
But he just stared at the half–empty closet, not hearing a word.
His thoughts drifted back to the day Regina returned from abroad.
Everyone had expected me to give up my husband. I cried, telling him how unfair it was…
When we got home, I had packed my bags in anger, ready to leave, but ended up putting on an apron and cooking after he simply said, “I’m craving your seafood soup.”
But this time, I’d left so quietly, as if nothing could hold me back anymore…
“…what do you think of this plan?”
Regina excitedly waved her phone.
Dominic finally snapped back to reality: “The Maldives? Can your body handle it?”
“The doctor says my indicators are looking good,” her pale face flushed. “Consider it… fulfilling my last wish,

please?
After thinking for a moment, he eventually nodded.
During dinner, his mother–in–law called.
“Ginny told me everything,” her voice was loving through the phone. “Take her somewhere nice to relax. As for Riley…”
“Mom!” Regina suddenly grabbed the phone, glancing at Dominic who had been distracted all evening, and sobbed: “Don’t pressure Dominic. I won’t go!”
She suddenly began coughing violently, unable to straighten up. “It’s not… really a dying wish I need to fulfill anyway!”
Dominic gently patted her back: “Don’t say that. I… I need to tell Riley about this!”
Just as he was about to call me, my brother stormed in and snatched his phone:
“Don’t bother telling her. She’ll just try to stop you. Wait until you’re in the Maldives to let her know. By then, her complaints won’t matter!”
Hearing this, Dominic reluctantly abandoned the idea of informing me.
Outside, it started to rain.
Dominic suddenly remembered how terrified I was of thunder.
During the last thunderstorm, I had curled up in his arms saying: “If I disappeared one day, would you look for me?”
How had he responded?
“You could go to the ends of the earth and still not escape my grasp…”
But now-
Regina’s soft cough pulled him back to reality.
Looking at her pale face, he told himself he was simply fulfilling a dying woman’s wish, and that I was being petty!
Besides, she was my sister.
Before the private jet took off, Dominic found himself opening our chat window.
The last message was from four days ago–Riley: [Come home early, I have big news for you~]
He stared at that lonely unanswered message, his finger hovering over the keyboard. After a long hesitation, he finally sent:
[I’m going to the Maldives with Ginny. Back next week. Want anything?]

A glaring red exclamation mark immediately appeared beside the message.
Dominic’s finger froze.
