Chapter 8
Walking over to Lily, I lifted her chin and asked icily,
“Sister, I’ve been so good to you. Why did you do this?”
Gritting her teeth, Lily glared at me.
“I was jealous of you. We grew up with the same circumstances, yet you ended up with a great husband and endless opportunities. Meanwhile, I was mocked for being incapable, for not knowing how to socialize.”
“And that jealousy is why you two conspired to stage an accident and claim insurance money?”
I pulled an insurance policy out of my bag and slapped it onto Brian’s face.
If it hadn’t been for the insurance agent delivering a complimentary gift to our house that day, I wouldn’t have discovered that Brian had taken out a hefty insurance policy on me before the trip.
The beneficiary? None other than Brian Parker himself.
It was this policy that made me realize the car accident was no coincidence.
“Caroline, let me explain!” Brian stammered.
But before he could finish, I threw a brake component report onto the floor.
“Brian Parker, this report clearly shows that the brake system was tampered with. I’ve already reported this to the police. You’d better confess before things get worse.”
Brian’s face turned pale, and before he could say another word, Lily interjected,
“It wasn’t just him! If I hadn’t insisted on taking the detour to watch the sunset, the car wouldn’t have lost control. If it weren’t for the quick actions of Lila saving you, you wouldn’t be standing here right now!”
Just as Lily was about to plead her case, a familiar voice sounded from behind.
“You wretched woman–you ruined me!”
I turned around to see Jason storming in, his face red with fury. He kicked Lily Eleanor, sending her sprawling two
meters away.
“What kind of fake information did you give me? I made a complete fool of myself presenting this plan, only to be thrown out by the client and mocked by competitors. And you dared to take $500,000 from me?”
Lily stared at the documents Jason had thrown on the ground, then looked at Brian Parker in confusion.

“I took this from your briefcase. You set me up?”
Turning her ire toward Jason, she shouted,
“You two colluded to sabotage me?”
The argument escalated quickly, and the two began grappling with each other. In the chaos, Brian shoved Lily hard against the wall, causing her to hit her head and bleed profusely.
I calmly bent down, picked up the documents, and smiled.
Hearing my laughter, Lily clutched her wound and looked at me in disbelief.
“You tampered with it, didn’t you?”
“I only swapped it with a proposal that had already been rejected,” I said coldly. “You need to understand, some things are simply beyond your abilities.”
Lily glared at me, her face filled with rage, but she collapsed slowly into the growing pool of her own blood.
The wailing of police and ambulance sirens from downstairs marked the end of this chaotic farce.
Three Days Later, Lila accompanied me to the lottery office to claim my winnings.
After completing all the formalities, we immediately bought two tickets for an overseas trip–a spontaneous getaway
“Oh, by the way,” Lila said casually as we waited for our flight. “Your shameless sister ended up in our hospital that day. My colleagues said her scar is over ten centimeters long. Looks like it’ll be permanent.”
I paused for a moment, then joked,
“Well, no one will confuse the two of us anymore.”
“And Brian Parker,” Lila continued, “he’s facing charges for attempted murder and insurance fraud. He’s still waiting for sentencing.
As for Jason, they dug up evidence of his other bribery cases. The amounts involved were so large that he’s already been fired, and the companies involved are suing him.”
I let out a cold laugh.
As we chatted, Lila suddenly asked,
20
“By the way, are you still planning to work now that you’ve won ten million?”
I smiled faintly and replied,
“After Jason and Brian got dismissed, the boss said he’s considering promoting me. I’m still thinking about it.”
The airport’s announcement urged us to board.
Lila grabbed my hand and started running toward the gate, joking,
“Who cares? What’s done is done. We’ll figure out the rest after the trip!”
