My parents were businesspeople. I barely saw them when I was young, and I hated that feeling of being sick and alone at home. I really care about having someone by my side.
Victor lives next door to me. His parents are also often away, so we naturally became close, growing up together, filling the emptiness in life.
But why didn’t he give me any fever medicine?
Not only didn’t he buy me any, today he sent me an anonymous letter.

Made me drag my sick body here to catch him cheating.
Did he ever care about me?
“Jennie, why are you crying again? Are you afraid of the medicine?”
Ethan sat at the edge of the bed, turned me toward him, and made me lean on him.
He held the fever medicine up to my lips and coaxed me like a child:
“Jennie, it’s not bitter.”
“Open your mouth. Ah.”
I shook my head. “I already took fever medicine before I left.”
But then I added, “Can you hold me?”
I felt so pathetic. Even as an adult, when I’m sick, I still want someone to hold me.
When I was little, I begged the nanny to hold me.
When I grew up, I wanted Victor to hold me.
Now, I wanted to try someone else.
At that moment, I really wanted to figure out:
Do I just need someone to hold me, or do I need Victor?
The mattress beside me suddenly sank.
Ethan immediately pulled me into his arms, as I expected.
1 buried my head in his chest, closed my eyes, and just quietly felt the moment.
Suddenly, I wanted to laugh.
So, when someone else holds me, I’m still content.
Turns out, I don’t need Victor.
I just need someone to hold me when I’m weak.

As for who that someone is–what difference does it make?
As long as they have a pleasing face, that’s good enough.
‘Click.”
Ethan took a selfie of him holding me and sent it anonymously to Victor:
‘Old man, Jennie says I’m better than you.”
I couldn’t be bothered to think about whether Victor would believe it this time.
just wanted to sleep well.
Because I didn’t care anymore..
I didn’t need him.
I was just about to fall asleep when my phone suddenly rang.
Ethan beat me to it, grabbing my phone and patting my back.
Jennie, go back to sleep.”
‘It’s the old man calling. I’ll answer it for you.”
I actually wanted to say, Victor’s not old.
But compared to Ethan, it was hard to argue.
My eyelids were too heavy, and in my dazed state, I pressed the button. I heard Ethan deliberately say:
“Who’s this? Jennie’s exhausted and can’t take your call.”
I could hear Victor cussing on the other end, his voice so loud it almost felt like he was shouting:
“Cut the crap! Did you steal Jennie’s phone or something?”

“Let me tell you, the owner of this phone is my woman!”
“Give the damn phone back!”
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
Victor would rather believe my phone was stolen than accept the idea that I might cheat.
I could still hear his friend’s voice analyzing the situation in the background:
“Are you sure Jennie’s phone was stolen?”
“What if Jennie’s really sleeping with that young boy from the picture?”
‘Maybe Jennie thought you were cheating, and in a fit of rage, she decided to cheat on you just to show you how it feels?”
I then heard a loud crash as Victor kicked something over:
‘No way!”
“We grew up together. You wouldn’t understand the kind of bond we have.”
“Our relationship is in our bones and blood.”
“Look, I know myself. No matter how many flowers and weeds there are outside, I’ve never thought about cheating. I’ve already decided on her. That picture is definitely photoshopped!”
His friend said, “But 20 minutes ago, you pinpointed Jennie’s location in this building. Why hasn’t she shown up yet?”
“Look at the background in this photo–it looks like the boys‘ dorm at the art school, and it matches perfectly with the latest location of her phone.”
“Her affair… is it with one of the college guys from the art school?”
Victor, completely furious, shouted at his friend:
“Can you just shut up? I told you it’s not possible!”
“We’re about to get married. She’d have to be crazy to cheat!”
With that, he hung up.
