Chapter 6
I rounded on Kayla, ready to rip off her fake smile. “What the hell are you pulling now?”
She puffed up like a peacock, voice dripping with scorn: “Cut the crap, Alia. You’re just pissed Ryan chose me. Newsflash: we’re legally married, our kid’s legit. *You were the side piece, and your son? A goddamn bastard.”
Hearing her trash my dead child, I saw red. “Shut up! He’s dead–why curse him?”
Kayla flopped to the floor, screaming like a banshee. “Help! This psycho’s kid died, so she’s attacking me at my wedding!”
People crowded around, gawking. Kayla played to the crowd: “Look at this slut! Wearing a wedding dress to crash my marriage!”
We were both in gowns, but only one groom stood between us. The crowd bought her act instantly.
“Home–wreckers have no shame these days.”
“She looks classy, but her dress is probably designer–what a hypocrite.”
Kayla eyed my gown, then turned to Ryan: “Babe, she lied to you, tried to ruin our day. Teach her a lesson–rip that dress off me. I’ll look way better in it!” She yelled to the crowd: “Who’s with me? Let’s strip this mistress!”
To my horror, they cheered. “Yeah! She’s dressed like a hooker crashing a wedding–teach her a lesson!”
A mob charged at me. My stylist and makeup artist tried to block them, but there were too many. Hands grabbed at my tulle, tearing beads and lace.
“Stop or I’ll call the cops!” I screamed.
Kayla beat me to it, phone in hand: “I’ll do you one better. Let’s see if the police arrest the home wrecker or the legal wife.”
Just as my gown was about to be shredded, a voice boomed: “Treeze! All of you, back off!”
My team perked up: “Mr. Sterling! Thank god you’re here–they think Mrs. Sterling’s the mistress!”
The crowd went quiet at the name.
“Sterling… Like Zane Sterling, the groom in the main ballroom?”
“Main ballroom weddings are for billionaires–we messed with the wrong person.”
“Haven’t you heard? Zane Sterling’s the new richest man in the country!”
