Chapter 6
“Damien, it’s my fault. I misjudged Carmilla,” Lilith said softly. “Please don’t be angry. The baby’s been crying this whole time. Maybe… maybe he just misses his daddy?”
She tested the waters cautiously.
But Damien ignored her completely. He walked right past her, carrying the withered vampire in his arms into the
bathroom.
He knew how much I hated filth. Even if I had become a monster, he wouldn’t let me stay dirty.
Warm water streamed down over our bodies. A glimmer of tears welled up in Damien’s eyes.
Suddenly, he remembered it all.
How he, knowing how much I cared about cleanliness, had personally thrown me into the den of lowborn vampires, letting me rot in the stench and filth.
Guilt washed over him like a tidal wave.
Why had he done it? His head started to throb.
Was it because… Lilith had claimed I’d bared my fangs to scare her?
But Lilith came from a prestigious family of elite vampire hunters. Why would she be frightened so easily?
Damien’s body tensed. He looked down at me, shaking.
For the first time, he didn’t recognize the man he had become.
He began to question everything: Why had he treated Lilith so well? Why had he hurt the woman who had stood by his side for more than a decade-The woman who had willingly turned into a vampire for him?
His gaze drifted upward, lost. And for the first time in his life, Damien was consumed by doubt.
Maybe that sweet, innocent human girl… wasn’t so innocent after all.
After carefully cleaning the emaciated vampire in his arms, Damien carried her out of the bathroom.
Just then, the butler returned with the results of the investigation-Surveillance footage and several bloodied men in tow.
Damien gently patted my half-dried hair and signaled the butler to bring them in.
The humans knelt before him, shaking uncontrollably.
Damien narrowed his eyes. Their faces-looked almost identical to Lilith’s.
“Sir-” The butler had barely started when Lilith burst through the door.
“Damien, he’s lying! Don’t believe anything he says!”
She screamed and lunged at the butler, trying to snatch the items from his hands. But within seconds, she was pinned to the ground.
At Damien’s signal, the butler continued his report: “It was Lilith who injected the Madam with a serum made from lowborn vampire blood. That’s what turned her into this.”
“These men are Lilith’s family. Their plan was to wait until Lilith gave birth, then raid the manor and slaughter everyone
inside.”
“And… the child Lilith gave birth to is a pure human. He’s not yours, sir.”
With that, the butler respectfully handed Damien the surveillance footage and the DNA test results.
Damien took them, his expression dark and terrifying.
Lilith stared into his blood-red eyes and screamed in panic.
“No… that’s not true!!”
“Damien, listen to me, it’s all lies! Carmilla’s not even dead!”
But before she could say another word, Damien’s hand closed tightly around her throat.
Her delicate face turned bright red.
His crimson eyes burned with rage. A deafening roar filled his head. He couldn’t hear a thing she was saying.
All he could do was squeeze-hard.
He no longer cared that she came from a family of vampire hunters. She had never told him the truth. And worse-she had
manipulated him into killing the woman he loved most!
Gritting his teeth, Damien’s fingers pressed in tighter.
“Lilith, I’ve been too damn soft with you. I remember warning you-stay away from Carmilla!”
“Carmilla was so kind… She never did anything to you. So why did you have to destroy her like this?”
He muttered through clenched teeth, not sure if he was questioning her-or himself.
Lilith’s pale face twisted as she clawed at Damien’s arm, desperate for air.
