Chapter 13 I Kinda Pity You
Maleah kept taunting, “I’ve heard that Jayvon kissed another woman in public. Look at you; you can’t even keep your fiance’s love. You’re such a useless woman. You disgraced our Lucero family!”
She tidied up her newly bought seasonal clothes while smirking smugly.
“I’ve long known that Jayvon didn’t love you anymore. But you’re so stupid and still believe that he loves you so much. What a poor woman. Thinking that you will soon marry a man who does not love you, I even begin to kinda pity you.”
Maleah said so, but meant another. I could tell it.
Maleah had many friends, and there were indeed many young men around Jayvon last night. So, I wasn’t surprised that Maleah would know about it so soon.
What surprised me was that Jayvon actually kissed Jaslene last night after I left.
I clenched my fists with anger, feeling a pang of pain in my heart.
When I drowned my sorrows out there, Jayvon was actually kissing another woman as if nothing had happened. But this also made me realize that Jayvon indeed had never loved me.
Maleah was right about one thing. I was stupid, so stupid to fall in love with a scumbag.
Looking at Maleah, I sneered, “You pity me? Should I
pity me? Should I say thank you?”
She wanted to disgust me, and, of course, I would counterattack. After closing the door, I slowly walked towards her.
“Maleah, a piece of advice. Mind your own business. Look at you. You really think you can get the Bernard Group’s offer with your poor ability? In your dreams,” I sneered at her with a calm face.
She instantly flew into a rage and shouted, “Brianna, I’ve won international awards! The Bernard Group has no reason to decline me!”
“You mean the award you got from stealing my work? If yes, the Bernard Group should hire me, not you.”
When I mentioned this past event, Maleah got even angrier.
She stood up from the sofa and pointed at me, shouting to retort, “Nonsense! That was my design, not yours! I have the ability to make it! Why did I have to steal your work? Besides, do you have any evidence to prove that I stole your work?”
I didn’t.
If I had evidence, I would’ve done something already at that time.

Maleah and I both came from the same school, studying things involving design, clothing, and jewelry. Back then, we participated in an international competition at the same time, and my design draft disappeared the day before submis- sion. But soon, it appeared in Maleah’s work.
At that time, I wanted to expose her, but I didn’t have any evidence. Alisa and Dad were both on Maleah’s side, and they also forcefully stopped this matter from spreading.
They even forced me to quit the competition for the so–called reputation of the Lucero family. In the end, Maleah used my design and achieved a result among the top three in the competition. Even now, she was still being praised sometimes because of that achievement.
I would never forget that hatred. I swore I would make her pay the price one day.
But now, I maintained a calm face and said lightly, “Whether I have evidence or not doesn’t matter. What matters is that you don’t have the ability to fit that honor.”
Not wanting to waste my time arguing with her, I looked her up and down and then said disdainfully, “Even if you get a job at the Bernard Group, so what? You know you can’t design anything that can satisfy the Bernard Group. I hope you won’t get fired right after you’re hired.”
“Brianna Lucero!”
“Brianna, how could you say that to your sister?”
My dad, Clayton Lucero, snapped at me while walking down the stairs. He was wearing casual clothes. It looked like he was having a rest at home and only got downstairs when he heard the commotion down here.
At this moment, he was staring at me with a deep frown, looking very unhappy.
“Dad!”
As soon as Maleah saw Clayton, the grievance surged within her.
