Chapter 23 Jaslene Loves Jayvon
She glanced pointedly at the man behind me, mustering false courage. “But even if you’re upset, Bree, you shouldn’t cheat! You’re still engaged. How can you shamelessly cling to another man?”
“She means Humberto steadying me? Call basic decency cheating? Please.” I thought.

The game was clear. She was setting me up.
“Cheating?”
I sneered. “That’s absurd. If anyone’s cheating, it’s Jayvon and you. I dumped him first. You two were screwing around long before!”
She bit her lip, feigning innocence. “We ended things ages ago! We’re just siblings now. Jayvon loves you. He’d nev-
er cheat!
“And…”
She tried dragging Humberto into it again.
The man stood behind me, his tall frame impossible to hide completely even as I tried to shield him. Jaslene kept peering around my shoulder, curious about who I was protecting.
“Bree, are you really betraying Jayvon? You’re still engaged! And you, sir…” She turned to Humberto. “Do you know she’s promised to another man? Why get involved with a cheater?”
I struck her cheek.
“I said I’m done with Jayvon. The engagement’s over in my book. Who I date is none of your business.”
I’d had enough of her act. She could insult me all day, but dragging Humberto into her drama crossed the line.
Humberto was my lifeline. Losing him meant finding someone equally perfect would be impossible.
Thankfully, he stayed silent, his expression unreadable.
I turned back to Jaslene, coldly pressing on. “Aren’t you the one obsessed with Jayvon? Now that I’m ending the en- gagement, why stir trouble?”
Her fingers twisted her skirt. “I don’t like him! You’re joking…”
“Don’t? What about those posts you shared? Everyone sees how you drool over him.” I stepped closer. “Keep lying, and I’ll print 10,000 copies of your cringey posts and scatter them across the city. Let everyone see your real feelings
for him.
“How do you think the Sawyer family will react?”

Jaslene paled.
She was scared.
Pablo valued reputation above all. Exposing her would get her banished from Jayvon’s life.
“I… I didn’t…”
Jaslene clutched her skirt, tears streaming down her face.
“Enough with the act,” I snapped. “You know exactly what you did. Keep showing up and maybe I’ll ‘accidentally‘ leak your Instagram posts.”
Sick of her act, my voice turned icy.
She fled, sobbing theatrically.
