I didn’t know why Jaslene put on an act here.
“Mr. Bernard.”
“Call me Humberto.”
Just as Jaslene left, I called Humberto and was about to explain to him, but he corrected me immediately.
I awkwardly called him by his name, then seriously continued, “You should know, I broke up with Jayvon long ago. I’m unable to break off the engagement now, but I’m absolutely not cheating, and it won’t affect your reputation.”
“I know it, and I don’t mind.”
Humberto’s reply was quick. I didn’t even react, and he looked deep into my eyes. I couldn’t read his emotions clearly, but I still wanted to believe his words.
He trusted me so much, and I was a bit moved. I nodded and changed the topic. “Well, when do you think we should have our wedding?”
I actually didn’t decide it, and I felt nervous when I mentioned the marriage.
Humberto slightly lowered his eyes. It seemed he could see through my thoughts. He calmly said, “It’s up to you to decide. If you need more time to think about it, you can call off the wedding anytime.”
Humberto glanced at the watch, and he got back in the car. “I have to work now. If you make the decision, just call me.”
“Okay.”
I didn’t ask him to stay. Indeed, I still needed to think about the marriage. When Humberto left, I was actually re-
lieved.
He was really considerate.
But I didn’t know that Humberto sent Jayvon a message after leaving. He told Jayvon to get Jaslene under control.
Jayvon was drinking at a party. Seeing the message, he was confused.
I didn’t know about these things. After taking a shower at home, I checked my phone and suddenly noticed there were several missed calls, all from Jayvon.
So, did Jaslene go crying to Jayvon and tell on me? Why was he so urgent to call me?
I was just thinking about it, and another call came in. I answered it.

“Bree, why did you bully Jaslene today? I said we’re just siblings. Why can’t you let her go?”
Jayvon’s voice was cold. He continued unhappily, “Did you slap her? Apologize to her now.”
This was like an order.
I laughed out of anger, “Jayvon, did you ask her why I slapped her?”
“Of course.”
Jayvon frowned, glanced at Jaslene, who was sobbing, and said sternly, “Jaslene just saw your affair with another man, and you got angry and slapped her, right? I haven’t even asked you yet. Who is that man you cheat with?” His tone was clearly angry.
Jayvon was a rich young man from a well–known family. His fiancee suddenly broke off the engagement and then cheated on him. He was really annoyed.
But I didn’t care. I sat on the bed doing my skincare while lazily replying, “I already broke up with you, and I clearly asked for calling off our engagement. Whether you agree or not, I’m single now. You have no say in who I’m dating.”
“So, you admit you have an affair with another man? Who is he? When did you start?”
Jayvon clenched his fists immediately. His voice became agitated. “Brianna, did you break up with me for him? I can’t believe you actually cheated on me! Tell me, who the hell is that guy? Also, apologize to Jaslene now!”
I rolled my eyes, not wanting to get Humberto involved in this.
I said coldly, “Don’t worry. I started to date him after our breakup. Besides, even if I’ve always liked him, what does it matter? Haven’t you always had feelings for Jaslene, too? It’s fair!”
I sneered, “Jaslene framed me for cheating, and you’re so foolish to believe her. You want me to apologize to her? Never!”
