Chapter 2
When they came out, my uncle’s gentle eyes had turned vicious. Instead of defending me, he kicked me straight in the chest.
“You worthless bitch! You think you deserve love at your age?”
Just then, my aunt arrived at the house to visit him. She saw the scene and scolded him
mercilessly. But after my dad took her to the study, she also told me not to even think about getting married, threatening that she’d poison me if I ever did.
I found it strange. What exactly was in my dad’s study that could make anyone who entered change their attitude toward me so drastically?
Even my sister, with whom I’d always had a great relationship, told me not to get married, urging me to stay single and enjoy my freedom.
She even secretly burned all my photos with my ex–boyfriends, deleted their contact info from
my phone, and blocked them. She just wouldn’t allow me to have any contact with men.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it, lying awake at night, haunted by the bizarre nature of it all.
But at least I still had my mom on my side.
However, she ran three restaurants and was busy from morning till night, never resting, so she couldn’t manage how I was being mistreated at home.
Breaking up with my boyfriends had been painful. I’d cried, begged, and caused a scene, but it
was all in vain.
A huge wave of disappointment surged inside me, as if my chest had been torn open. The wind
outside blew in, freezing me to the bone.
My dad shot me a disdainful look before plopping down on the couch to watch TV.
I walked over, stood right in front of him, and stared at him seriously.
“Tell me the truth. Why are you doing this? What did I do to you? If there’s a problem, just say
it!”
We’re family, after all. If there’s a misunderstanding, wouldn’t it be better to just talk it through?
But my dad didn’t even look at me, coldly staring at the TV screen.

“I’ve told you already, no dating, no marriage. If you go against me, I’ll kill you!”
He glared at me with his eyes narrowed, his gaze twisted with malice.
I shuddered.
The next second, he lunged for the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and came at me like a madman.
I barely made it to my room in time, slamming the door and locking it before frantically
calling my
best friend. “Call the police! NOW!”
A female officer immediately subdued my dad, throwing the knife far away. I finally breathed a
sigh of relief and came out of my room.
“Mr. Sutton, you’re under arrest for attempted murder.”
But my father didn’t even flinch. No fear. No remorse.
When my friend saw the cut on my arm from the knife, she turned pale, tears streaming down
her face.
She punched my dad in fury.

I knew that if the police weren’t there, she would’ve probably punched my dad in retaliation.
At least someone in this world wanted me to be happy.
The police pressed him for answers, but my father just stood there, cold and unrepentant.
