Chapter 6
After being discharged, thinking she might not return once she went abroad, Winter arranged a small gathering with a few close friends.
The girls shopped, ate, and chatted in a café until nightfall before saying their goodbyes.
After settling the bill, she went back to get her bag. Passing by a private room next door, she heard
her name.
“So what if Winter Bailey comes from a wealthy family? She chased after Dominic like a lovesick puppy for years, and finally, she still lost to our Aurelia!”
“Sure! When she watched Dominic propose to Aurelia that day, she must have been seething with jealousy! And she had to force a smile while recording it–how pathetic and ridiculous!”
Aurelia sat in the center, her face full of arrogance as she raised an eyebrow smugly.
“Stop comparing me to Winter Bailey. She’s not even in my league.”
Through the partially open door, Winter listened quietly, her heart skipping a beat as she took out her phone.
The people in the room had no idea she was outside. Aurelia’s girlfriends continued their mockery.
“The Bailey family has money, but compared to Thorne Group? It’s pocket change! She should look in the mirror and see if she even deserves him before throwing herself at him. Good thing Dominic only has eyes for Aurelia and wouldn’t give her the time of day.”
“But Aurelia, I heard Winter donated blood to you after your car accident? Doesn’t she absolutely hate you? Why would she agree?”
Aurelia took a sip of coffee, her demeanor casual as she spoke.
“Dominic contacted her. He probably offered her something juicy–I don’t know the details. Anyway, he’s promised me that if I get hurt again, he’ll make her donate blood to me. If she doesn’t know what’s good for her and still tries to seduce Dominic, I’ll just get a little ‘injured‘ now and then, drain all her blood until she’s just a pile of ashes. That’ll teach her!”

Winter finally realized that in her previous life, Aurelia’s injuries had all been deliberate–just to kill her!
A chill wrapped around her heart, her body trembling uncontrollably.
She bit her lip hard, her palms cut raw by her nails as she swallowed the scream rising in her throat.
Just then, a phone rang in the room, followed seconds later by the sound of footsteps.
She hid behind a pillar and saw Aurelia leave with a somber expression.
Her girlfriends remained in the private room, mumbling something about an ex–boyfriend and childhood sweetheart.
Intuition told Winter something was about to happen. She instinctively followed Aurelia and saw her in the stairwell, being pulled by a strange man who seemed to be arguing with her.
“Chase, I’ve told you before–stop contacting me. I’m getting married soon!”
“Married? To whom, Dominic Thorne? Aurelia, you dumped me just to be his trophy wife? We grew up together, I gave you my heart, and you’re marrying someone else? How can you be so heartless?”
“Heartless? There’s nothing wrong with aiming higher! Can you compare to Dominic Thorne? He’s the heir to Thorne Group, while you’re just a nobody, a poor boy with nothing to offer! If I stayed with you, what would we have? A bunch of starving kids? If you love me, you should let me go, let me live the life I want!”
Aurelia’s ruthless attitude ignited the man’s fury, his face instantly turning ashen.
“Let you go? Who’s going to let me go! Does Dominic know you’re only with him to climb the social ladder? Does he know that during these years together, you’ve been on and off with me? Does he know that last night, we were still in bed together?!”
Hearing this, Winter froze on the spot.
Her hand trembled, and the phone that was still recording crashed to the ground.
