Chapter 8
After returning home covered in injuries, Winter shut herself in, not stepping outside. She spent her
days packing luggage in her room.
After finishing with her bags, she visited a real estate agent.
To develop overseas markets, her parents had settled abroad several years ago.
For Dominic’s sake, she had stayed behind in the country alone, so her parents left this villa for her
to live in.
To liquidate these assets as quickly as possible, she sold the house at the lowest possible price.
After completing the property transfer, she arrived home when it was already dark. The street light by her door wasn’t working–it seemed like a power outage.
Unable to see clearly, Winter was about to turn on her flashlight when headlights suddenly beamed
from a car parked about fifty feet away.
Dazzled, she squinted and looked up to see the car speeding straight toward her.
“BANG-”
The distance was too close for her to dodge. She was violently thrown and crashed heavily to the
ground.
Blood gushed out. She felt like her internal organs had shifted, the pain nearly stopping her breath.
Her body convulsed in the pool of blood as if being torn apart.
Her mind was in chaos, replaying the scene of the accident over and over.
Winter clearly saw the driver–it was Aurelia’s ex–boyfriend, Chase!
Even knowing who the perpetrator was, she could do nothing as her consciousness gradually drifted
away.
In her hazy state, she saw a car stop beside her.

The door opened, and Dominic’s face appeared in her vision.
His figure, rushing toward her at breakneck speed, was the last thing Winter saw before losing
consciousness.
The roar of engines echoed in her ears, followed by chaotic voices and the beeping of medical
equipment.
The smell of antiseptic spread around her, stimulating her nerves.
She regained a sliver of consciousness, barely managing to open her eyes to see medical staff speaking urgently.
“The emergency room is ready, Mr. Thorne. We’ll begin resuscitation immediately.”
Dominic stood in front of her, his expression complex as he glanced at her and spoke coldly.
“Hold off on the surgery. Aurelia is injured and waiting. Draw blood first.”
Hearing this request, the doctors were stunned.
“But this patient is severely injured! If we don’t operate immediately, there could be permanent damage! She’s already lost too much blood–drawing more could be life–threatening!”
“I brought her to the hospital for one purpose only to save Aurelia. So regardless of the risk to her life, I only care that Aurelia is safe! The surgery must be delayed. I can sign the critical condition
notice–I’m her husband!”
Every word stabbed into Winter’s chest like a blade, making her wish for death.
She watched helplessly as the needle pierced her arm, the last of her strength gradually fading. A sensation of emptiness and exhaustion slowly washed over her. In her delirium, the feeling of death
descended once more.
She slowly closed her eyes, hearing the nurse’s pitying remark.
“A husband who won’t save his wife’s life, but draws her blood to save another woman–clearly there’s no love there. If she were conscious and knew all this, she’d surely regret marrying him?”
A tear fell from the corner of her eye, sliding into her hair, unnoticed by anyone.
Before completely losing consciousness, only one thought remained in Winter’s mind.

Yes, she regretted it–regretted meeting him, regretted marrying him, regretted being so blindly devoted for so many years.
She deeply regretted ever loving Dominic Thorne.
