Chapter 75
Kate’s expression stiffened as she said, “Mr. Fisk, I-”
“Ms. Dawson,” Howard sharply interjected. “I thought not interrupting when others are speaking was the most basic form of courtesy. Did they not teach you that at headquarters? Or did your pre–school teacher skip over that part as well?”
He had already pieced together the events of that day.
Most likely, this entire mess had been stirred up by Coco’s so–called junior from headquarters. The fact that this kind of person had used someone under his charge made his mood especially
foul.
Kate’s face went pale. She wondered if Howard was yelling at the wrong person. After all, she had expected him to scold Veronica instead.
Despite feeling deeply humiliated, Kate dared not utter another word. Even if she came from headquarters, Howard’s authority far exceeded that of an intern like her.
Only when she finally fell quiet did Howard rein in his anger. He turned and bowed deeply to
Veronica.
Kate’s pupils contracted in disbelief.
“Ms. Dolton, I sincerely apologize for the incident during your interview just now. The way you were treated was inexcusable, and we bear full responsibility,” Howard said solemnly.
Coco, still shaken, rushed over. She quickly bowed as well. “I am so sorry, Ms. Dolton. I completely misjudged you. Please accept my apology for my rudeness before.”
Howard added, “I hope that the actions of a few irrational employees won’t affect your partnership with Heberly. I assure you that we will handle this incident with all fairness and
seriousness.”
Their words made Kate begin to feel faint. She couldn’t believe it. Why were they apologizing to Veronica of all people? What made her so special?
Howard turned to look at the stunned Kate. “Ms. Dawson, being from headquarters places you beyond Heberly’s authority. However, I’ll still be reporting everything you did behind the
scenes to the appropriate person in charge at headquarters.‘
The words had barely landed when Kate collapsed to the floor. “No, it’s not true! I didn’t do anything! You must be mistaken!”
“Heberly does not welcome people who stir up trouble. Security, escort Ms. Dawson out. Do not allow her back in without my permission.”
Howard ignored Kate’s screams as she was dragged away. He then turned back to Veronica and

apologized once more, this time with even greater sincerity.

Veronica had not been outraged, to begin with, and this director’s response had been swift and
decisive.
“Thank you for your time, Mr. Fisk. The reason didn’t proceed with the interview today was that I felt Ms. Geller needed some time to calm down. I simply wanted to avoid any further unnecessary conflict, so I chose to leave first,” she patiently explained.
Coco lowered her head even more.
Howard sighed. Observing Veronica’s calm composure, he felt even more furious now. He thought that it was such a shame that she wasn’t one of Heberly’s in–house designers.
“Thank you for your understanding, Ms. Dolton” Then, as if something had just occurred to him, he added, “May I ask if your company is currently open to capital investment?”
Seeing Veronica’s curious glance, he continued, “Our headquarters has launched a new funding initiative this quarter for apparel design research and development. We are looking for potential partnerships. If you and your company are interested, you could consider submitting a proposal.”
Veronica was taken aback. Wouldn’t submitting a proposal mean she’d be applying directly to Fletcher Group’s main headquarters?
That was the very partnership Courtney had dreamed of for years. This unexpected heads–up by Howard brought her surprise and joy.
To express her gratitude, she ultimately decided to stay and finish the interview. Howard arranged a different interviewer for her, and he also remained present for the entire session
In contrast to the previous session, this one was entirely free of unpleasantness.
At Fletcher Group’s headquarters, William’s vision briefly went dark when he received Howard’s urgent message. He couldn’t make sense of Howard’s message, saying that they’d accidentally upset Veronica.
This was someone even his boss never dared to raise his voice at, and Heberly had managed to offend her just like that?
He was beginning to wonder whether he even knew how to read anymore.
That day was the monthly performance review, and Ashton had been laying into the entire board behind closed doors. No one dared to go near him.
William felt like his end was near. As he debated whether to face it sooner or later, another message came in from Howard.
The one behind everything turned out to be someone from the headquarters?
