I looked down, the lie slipping out easily. “Luna Anya came to see me. I told her I was fine and asked her to leave.”
Seeing me cover for her, Luna Anya quickly plastered on a fake smile. “Yes, I was just saying she’s recovering well. No need to bother the pack doctor anymore.”
She then made an excuse and hurried off, leaving Eric and me alone.
The only sounds in the room were our breathing, and his powerful Alpha scent was thick in the air, almost suffocating.
“Earlier…” Eric walked to the bedside, his voice strained. “The attack was so sudden. I couldn’t protect you in time.”
I just nodded slightly, my voice flat. “I know. It’s okay.”
Eric narrowed his golden wolf eyes. “You don’t blame me?”
“No, I don’t.”
He stared into my eyes, searching for any hint of hurt or resentment. But my gaze was as calm as a still pond.
Suddenly, he reached out, a flicker of frustration in his eyes, as if to touch my face. “Sera, stop it. I…”
“I really don’t blame you.” I turned my head, dodging his touch. My voice was quiet but firm, cutting him off like a knife. “I want to rest. Gianna was scared too. You should go take care of her.”
With that, I closed my eyes and turned my back to him.
I could feel him standing there for a long time, his Alpha scent washing over me, like he was waiting for something. Finally, with a sigh, he
closed the door and left.
