Dump His Dying 40

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

The person on the other end called back almost immediately.

“So Miss Bennett has finally come to her senses? I’ll transfer the money in a month. I thought your relationship was so unbreakable, but it seems it wasn’t much after all. How about you come to me after the divorce?”

Hazel ignored his mockery and replied calmly.

“You have two weeks. Take it or leave it.”

With that, she hung up.

Hazel knew that, given Roman’s personality, he would never easily agree to divorce and let her go.

So she needed someone to keep him in check, and his arch-rival, Dominic Lloyd, was the perfect choice.

The sound of footsteps in the living room broke

her concentration.

“Hazel, why did you come home without me? The receptionist said you left looking really upset. Are you feeling sick?” Roman asked as he entered.

Seeing that she appeared normal, he relaxed and proudly produced a gift box.

“Anniversary present. Do you like it?”

Hazel’s expression momentarily faltered.

Two weeks ago, while traveling abroad with friends, she’d spotted this bracelet at an auction. But the price had exceeded her budget, so she’d reluctantly given up on it.

She never imagined Roman would buy it for her.

“I promised on our wedding day that I’d love and protect you for life,” he said solemnly. “Whatever you want, I’ll move heaven and earth to get it for you.”

His eyes were sincere, his tone earnest. But Hazel could only manage a bitter smile.

What she wanted most was a faithful partner, but Roman wasn’t that.

She handed him the box containing the divorce agreement.

“I got you a present too. But you have to wait seven days before opening it.”

Roman looked puzzled but nodded agreeably.

“Alright. I’ve booked your favorite restaurant for dinner, and then we can go shopping afterward.”

Without giving her a chance to refuse, he whisked her into the car.

Throughout the drive, he kept telling her amusing stories to cheer her up. But Hazel remained silent.

Ten minutes later, Roman’s phone rang.

Seeing “Naomi Jensen” flash on the screen, Hazel’s body tensed slightly. Hadn’t he blocked her number long ago?

Before she could process this, Roman had already answered, fury in his voice.

“Will you ever stop?! I told you to leave me alone! Are you incapable of understanding basic human language?”

Naomi’s trembling voice came through the speaker.

“Roman, someone’s following me. I’m scared. Could you come get me…?”

Roman hesitated, but his tone remained cold. “You should call the police. I can’t help you.”

With that, he hung up.

The piercing ringtone sounded again and again in the silent car.

Hazel finally spoke, her voice icy.

“I’m not hungry anymore. You should go find Naomi.”

Roman cut her off before she could finish.

“Ignore her. With her looks, who would follow her? And even if someone is, it’s her own shameless fault…”

Despite his words, his furrowed brow and increasing speed betrayed his concern.

Hazel was about to warn him about speeding when a black sedan suddenly darted out from a side street.

Her pupils contracted in horror.

With a deafening crash, the world spun violently around her.

In her dazed state, Hazel felt someone lift her from the car. Roman’s voice was frantic: “Hazel, how do you feel? Are you hurt

anywhere?”

The pain in her chest made it almost impossible to breathe.

“It hurts so much…” she whispered weakly.

But her feeble voice was drowned out by Roman’s ringing phone.

This time, Naomi’s voice was thick with tears.

“Roman, I’m really scared. Please, help me, please?”

Before Roman could respond, there were several screams from Naomi’s end, and then the call cut off.

His expression instantly changed.

“Hazel, I’ve checked and you don’t have any external injuries. The ambulance will be here soon. Wait here… I’ll deal with this and come right back!”

With that, he laid Hazel carefully by the roadside and hurriedly departed.

The pain blurred Hazel’s consciousness. She couldn’t speak, could only watch helplessly as Roman got into a waiting taxi.

Then her vision went black as she lost consciousness completely.
