Chapter 7
Chapter 7
If everything went smoothly, Kieran would be back in Palo Alto in a month.
But a month felt like forever.
Two people in a long-distance relationship during the honeymoon phase are pretty awkward.
We’d check in with each other about our schedules all day long like clockwork.
When we weren’t going out, we’d listen to the same playlists, read the same books, order coffee from the same brand.
One day after swimming, my fitness watch showed I’d burned exactly 143 calories.

I thought it was pretty coincidental, so I snapped a pic and posted it on Instagram.
By the time I finished showering and blow-drying my hair, my post was flooded with comments.
[Just came from campus heartthrob’s page-I’m freaking out!]
[Is this you guys going public?]
[Got my popcorn ready, pulled up a chair-can someone please explain what’s happening?]
[Someone tell me this is real! I’m gonna stan you two so hard! You’re perfect together!]
Confused, I clicked over to Kieran’s Instagram.
rurns out right after I posted, he’d posted his own swimming workout pic, and his watch showed he’d swum exactly 1.43 kilometers.
His comments were going crazy too, with all our mutual friends hunting for the truth.
I even spotted Aria’s comment in the mix.
Swimming that far in one go? Aren’t you tired?]
ust as I was about to roll my eyes, Kieran’s call came through.
‘Damn, we’re so in sync. Even our workout stats are this perfect.”
Kieran’s voice was doing things to my nerves, and I burst out laughing.
Like, who didn’t know he did that on purpose?
Skylar, everyone’s asking what we are. Don’t you think keeping it secret isn’t cool?” he asked carefully.
Yeah, not really cool,” I said, trying not to laugh.
So can I tell everyone about us?”
Nope.” I was totally messing with him.
What?” His voice got all whiny. “You’re not still thinking about someone else, are you?”
Kieran, what are you even saying?” I got serious. “Pick the best photo of us together. I wanna post it with you.”
For real? Wait up!”
Kieran immediately hung up and sent me seven or eight photos to choose from.
I held my phone, grinning like crazy.
I picked the photo of us together on the Ferris wheel that day and posted it on Instagram.
[Go ahead and ship us. It’s legit.]
Chapter 7
Kieran sent a bunch of heart emojis and posted the same thing.
Now Instagram and the alumni groups were absolutely losing it.
Mixed in with all the congratulations was one super awkward [?]-that was Daxon.
Daxon’s friends were screenshotting my post and sharing it in their group chat.
[@Daxon, did you guys actually break up?]
[Shit, I thought Skylar was just throwing a tantrum. They really broke up?]
[Looks legit. I just saw Kieran posted the same thing…]
[Wait, isn’t Skylar in this group? Yall posted in the wrong chat.]
Then I watched those messages get deleted one by one.
So they had a group without me-how ‘cute’.
I left the group chat.
But Daxon suddenly called me.
