Noelia snapped back to reality and her blood went cold seeing who it was.
Anita.
She had some guy with her–young, puppy dog type, clearly wrapped around her finger.
They were all giggly and touchy–feely, playing the perfect couple.
Noelia felt Leister’s grip on her hand turn crushing.
Like he was squeezing her fucking heart.
Anita spotted them and dragged her boy toy over.

Out of the corner of her eye, Noelia caught Leister glaring daggers at the young guy, jealousy written all over his face.

While she was still stuck in the same pathetic trap.
Anita shot her this smug little smirk, clearly loving the power trip.
Noelia let out a hollow laugh and yanked her hand free. “I’m going in.”
Sensing her mood shift, Leister hesitated, eyeing the guy next to Anita before chasing after her.
Behind them, Anita watched Noelia leave with pure contempt.
“Don’t let her mess with your head, babe. After that contract drama, she definitely won’t be dating anyone.”
“Getting worked up over her bullshit isn’t worth it.”
He wrapped an arm around her as they walked toward the entrance.
Noelia wanted to laugh. He sounded so concerned, but really he just didn’t want his precious Anita getting fired.
They reached the haunted house and went inside.
Total darkness surrounded them. Leister pulled her close, his solid chest offering that familiar comfort.
“I’ve got you. Nothing to be scared of.”
His warm hand stroked her hair gently.
Other couples around them looked envious as hell.
But Noelia felt absolutely nothing.
She’d never actually been afraid of haunted houses. She just loved being in his arms, loved feeling connected to him.
The house hadn’t changed. Her husband had.
Partway through, they hit an individual challenge section.
Leister went off to handle his solo task.
But he was gone way too fucking long.
Getting worried, she went looking and found something that would haunt her forever…
In this narrow corridor, Leister had Anita pinned against the wall, kissing her with brutal possession like he wanted to devour
her whole.
His hands gripped her waist as he demanded answers.

“You’ve been ignoring me… I thought you didn’t want me anymore…” Anita sobbed pitifully into his chest.
Her crocodile tears instantly melted all his anger.
He gently stroked her cheek. “Hey, don’t cry. I’ll take you somewhere amazing this weekend, spend the whole time with you.”
“For real? What about Noelia?”
‘She’s nothing compared to you. You come first, always. But no more making me jealous with random guys!”
Noelia stood frozen in the shadows, watching them make out.
So she ranked below his fucking mistress.

Noelia sat there white faced and trembling, unable to tell if her ankle or her heart hurt worse.
“You’re the sweetest, baby,” Anita purred.
‘Only for you, gorgeous.”
He carried her away without looking back once.
If he’d turned around for one second, he would’ve seen his wife crumpled on the ground. Would’ve seen her actual injury.

Noelia had to feel her way out in the dark, leaning on walls, every step pure agony.
At the exit, she found Leister in full panic mode.
His eyes were bloodshot as he shoved her photo at staff members.
“Have you seen this woman? White shirt, denim skirt…”
They all shook their heads. “Nope, probably still inside. Try calling her!”
He looked like he was about to break down. “No signal in there, can’t reach her. I searched everywhere–her whole group cam
out but she didn’t.”
‘She hates being alone in the dark. She’s probably terrified.”
‘Look, I’ll pay whatever you want–cover your whole day’s revenue. Turn on every light and tell your actors to back off.”
His desperate voice had the whole crowd feeling sorry for him.
Noelia watched from the shadows, feeling sick with irony.
Where was this concern ten minutes ago?
‘Dude, isn’t that your wife right there?” someone shouted.
Leister spun around, and seeing her standing there, he sprinted over and crushed her in his arms.
Like she was some priceless treasure he’d almost lost forever.
Jesus, are you okay? Where the hell were you? I told you to wait!”
His panicked voice was right in her ear.
Noelia’s face stayed dead cold, her heart completely numb.
I saw some couple hooking up and figured I should give them space.”
Leister’s hands went still on her back…
