In truth, Jennifer had been eating apples by herself before this. Jasper had only started feeding her once the door opened.
Jennifer took a bite. The apple was crisp and sweet.
“Your hand got hurt?” Brayan asked coldly.
Jennifer shook her head. “No.”
“Then why aren’t you eating them yourself?”
The atmosphere grew intense.
Jasper looked ready to retort, but Jennifer waved him off.
“I just feel like being pampered,” she said, meeting Brayan’s eyes without flinching. “Just like you are.”
Brayan was silent for a moment before curling his lips into a slight
smile.
Jennifer had to admit Brayan was strikingly handsome. His lips. naturally curved upward, lending him an air of dangerous charm.
“Is that your way of reminding me how devoted you were all these years?” Brayan finally asked.
That wasn’t what Jennifer meant, but she wasn’t about to correct his misunderstanding either.
Then Catalina chimed in, “Brayan works hard to support the family. As his wife, isn’t it your duty to take care of him without complaint?”

Jennifer turned to her with a grin. “You sure think highly of him. Too bad he doesn’t even give you the chance to take care of him. That’s just sad.”
Catalina’s face turned awkward, and Jasper laughed.
“Mr. Manning, my wife and I have some private matters to discuss. Would you mind giving us some space?” Brayan said.

Now the only ones left in the room were Jennifer, Brayan, and Catalina.
“Ive already taken care of your resignation from the Juvenile Detention. Center.” Brayan said matter–of–factly.
“Who gave you the right?!”
Jennifer’s eyes widened.
“I’m your legal husband.”
That left Jennifer momentarily speechless.
“You were only working a few days before getting mixed up with the police and the doctors. You clearly can’t work. Being a housewife suits you much better. And don’t worry. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of-”
“Brayan LeBlanc, I’ve already filed for divorce!” Jennifer snapped, cutting him off.
“Well, I haven’t agreed,” he said firmly.

Beside them, Catalina had clenched her pink dress so hard it was full of wrinkles.
The conversation ended in another standoff. Jennifer felt frustrated and helpless.
Before he left, he even said that he could ask Jamie to bring other kinds of flowers if pink roses weren’t her things.
Outside the hospital building. Brayan lit a cigarette in front of Catalina.
Smoking wasn’t allowed in the hospital, so he’d held back until now.
Catalina knew his habits. He wasn’t a heavy smoker, only smoking when he was seriously upset.
There had been so many times she’d wanted to ask why he refused to divorce Jennifer.
But every time, the question died on her lips.
She believed Brayan loved her.
He was just too rational, too vindictive.
Catalina couldn’t help but regret it. Things wouldn’t be like this if she hadn’t stormed off overseas or posted those Instagram stories to provoke him. The marriage between Brayan and Jennifer could’ve never existed.
The doctor had recommended Jennifer stay a few more days, but she was eager to leave. When she went to pay her bills, she found it had already been settled.
Outside Kim’s Detective Agency, Jennifer double–checked the name and address. She was in the right place.

After they left the detective agency, Jennifer felt noticeably lighter.
“Let’s eat. My treat. What do you feel like?”
“I should be treating you since you keep me company today,” Jennifer said.
“No way. That meal was supposed to be on me. It took me a while to realize it. I owe you.”
Jennifer was amused that it had taken him so long to realize.
They were strolling down the street to find a place to eat when Jennifer’s phone suddenly rang.
