Chapter37
If anyone should be treating, it should’ve been her.
But the two of them insisted they’d already made the reservation, and there was no backing out.
They sat down, ordered, and soon found themselves deep in conversation, the mood lively and light.
“Alright, spill,” Lydia said, raising her glass to clink with Jennifer’s. “What kind of ridiculous luck did you run into to land a job at VelvetRose Group? You know even the top graduate from Nexford University didn’t make it in!”
“Obviously, the HR team was blinded by my dazzling good looks,” Jennifer joked.
“Fair enough.” Lydia replied, deadpan.
After a bit more joking, Jasper chimed in. The detective agency had contacted him.
When Jennifer had hired them, she’d been worried they might not be able to reach her–so she’d left Jasper’s number as a backup.
“They’re sorry,” he said, “but they couldn’t find solid proof that Brayan cheated.”
He handed Jennifer his phone so she could see the photos.
They were all of Brayan and Catalina together–attending events, coming and going from hotels, always side by side, clearly close.
In a few shots, she had her arm around his shoulders or looped through his arm. But never holding hands. Nothing overt.
Jennifer’s grip lightened around her wine glass.
“The investigator said it’s not enough,” Jasper added. “There’s no damning evidence. Not a single photo of them holding hands. It’s always her clinging to him, never the other way around. If Brayan’s lawyers claim he just treats her like a little sister, it’s hard to argue. Stuff like this won’t hold up in court.”
He sounded frustrated. He’d really thought hiring a PI would help Jennifer finally get the divorce she wanted.
But Jennifer wasn’t frustrated–she was lost in thought.
“What if Brayan really hasn’t cheated? What if I’ve been wrong this whole time?” she thought.
Her heart beat like a drum. She didn’t even know what she was feeling -nervous? Hopeful? Dreadful?
She dug her nails into the back of her hand, trying to snap herself out of it. But her thoughts spiraled anyway, and she didn’t even notice how quiet the table had become.
By the time she came back to herself, Brayan was already standing beside the table. And he’d been there for a while.
Jennifer was surprised to see Brayan.
Brayan’s vibe was so strong; just standing there made Lydia and Jasper speechless.
Jennifer didn’t look like she was just here to bump into Brayan, it was more like she came here specifically to find him.

Brayan didn’t say a word, he just stared at her with his eyes like. needles, making her feel nervous,
“You had someone investigate me…”
When Brayan spoke, his voice was cold and emotionless, you couldn’t tell his mood.
Without waiting for Jennifer to admit or deny, he grabbed Jennifer’s arm and pulled her up from the chair.
Lydia and Jasper couldn’t just stand there and watch Brayan take Jennifer away
“When I talk to my wife alone, I don’t want anyone else around.”
Brayan casually retorted, leaving Lydia and Jasper speechless.
The two of them couldn’t catch up with Brayan and Jennifer who were walking ahead.
Jennifer was pulled by Brayan all the way and into the elevator.
Brayan was strong and she couldn’t break free.
Until they got into the elevator, Brayan’s hand was still tightly holding her arm.
Jennifer saw Brayan press the button for the 77th floor, she knew there. was a hotel up there.
She didn’t ask Brayan what he wanted to do, cause she knew he wouldn’t answer her, so there was no point in asking.
It took some time to get to the 77th floor. Brayan swiped the room card to open the door and pushed Jennifer into a room.

This room was huge, probably the most expensive presidential suite in this Michelin three–star hotel.
Jennifer couldn’t help but sneeze, and Brayan’s voice came from beside her:
“VelvetRose had very high expectations for employees, how did you get in?”
Jennifer tilted her head to the side, avoiding Brayan’s sharp gaze.
“It’s just a regular job interview.”
Brayan chuckled.
“Which HR department would hire someone with only a high school diploma?”
Jennifer’s hands gradually clenched into fists.
Her education seemed to be a stain on her life.
“Why don’t you know that I only have a high school education?”
Jennifer asked Brayan, he paused for a moment, shrugged with his hands in his pockets, and said, “Are you blaming me for having a lower education level?”
“It was you who made me give up my studies and marry you. You said you would take care of me…”
“So, did I force you to agree to marry me?”
Brayan coldly interrupted Jennifer.
“Will you not accept my proposal?”
“Did you agree when I asked you to drop out of school?”
“And also, after three years of marriage, didn’t I support you?”
