“Jennifer is different from Catalina. She doesn’t have much going for her, no degree and no job. She’s just a house- wife, always busy with cooking and cleaning. My grandpa likes her, my mom thinks she’s easy to handle, and my whole family is happy with her. Why would I divorce her?
“She’s perfect for being a wife at home. She doesn’t need much. Just a little attention now and then, and she’ll be hap- py.”
Ronan on the other end of the line seemed to get it. “Oh, I see. But Catalina…”
“Send me the address. I’ll be right there.”
After hanging up the phone, Brayan rushed out the door.
Jennifer waited until she heard the door shut before she dared to make a sound.
She was crying.
Tears poured down her face, blurring her vision. Waves of nausea washed over her, and her stomach hurt like it was being sliced by a knife.
She clutched her stomach and squatted down, sweating from the pain. Warm liquid dripped down her legs.
It was blood.
Everything went black in front of her eyes.
When she opened her eyes again, she was lying in a hospital bed.
The room was empty except for a nurse.
“Excuse me, I…” Jennifer’s voice was rough.
“Ms. Griffin, you had a miscarriage,” the nurse said.
Jennifer was in the hospital for a whole month, and every night she had dreams.
In her dreams, Brayan would come to the hospital to see her. He’d stay by her bed all day and night, smiling as he lis- tened to the baby in her belly.
Every time she woke up, she was crying her eyes out.
The baby was gone.
And Brayan never came to see her even once.
He said he was on a business trip to Priusiland, but he sent his assistant, Jamie Elliott, to bring her flowers twice.

11 288 Vouchers
They were pink roses, and he also paid all the medical bills.
Jennifer thought about giving the flowers to the nurses a few times, but she couldn’t do it. She’d rather sneeze every day than let them go.
Since she was only two months pregnant, the abortion didn’t hurt that much. But touching her belly from time to time had become a habit for her.
Just thinking about the little life that had once been inside her made her nose tingle with sadness.
That was her first baby, the child of her and the man she had loved for ten whole years.
And now it was gone.
She cried herself to sleep every night, and her recovery didn’t go so well. But she couldn’t stay in the hospital forever. They asked her to clear out the ward to make room for new patients.
In the empty ward, Jennifer was packing up her things to leave when a stranger walked in.
The girl had a pretty face, perfect makeup, and was wearing a pink velvet off–the–shoulder dress that hugged her body, with a shiny necklace around her neck.
Jennifer recognized the necklace. It was the same fancy, limited–edition pink diamond necklace from the luxury brand VelvetRose that Ronan had shown off in his Instagram.
“Hey there, I’m Catalina Colbert, and I went to high school with Brayan.”
atalina introduced herself, and Jennifer couldn’t help but think about the name.
e thought, “Catalina?
Yeah, it’s her.”
When Catalina reached out her hand, Jennifer shook it politely.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Jennifer Griffin, Brayan’s wife. You can call me Mrs. LeBlanc.”
Catalina’s smile froze for a second.
But she had clearly seen a lot of the world, and her expression quickly got back to normal.
