Chapter 14
Mary did not think much of Natalie’s request and brought over a pair of scissors. “What do you want to cut, Mrs Pereira? Let me do it for you—the scissors are sharp and may hurt you.
Natalie held out her hand and said firmly, “No, I’ll do it myself.”
Mary was still uneasy. Natalie was pregnant now–if anything went wrong under Mary’s watch, she would be in huge trouble. Therefore, though she gave Natalie the scissors, she remained close by
Natalie held the scissors in one hand and the dress in the other. In a flash, a large cut appeared on the dress.
Stunned, Mary cried out, “Mrs. Pereira, what are you doing? Why are you cutting up the dress?”
She was both shocked and heartbroken to see a perfectly good dress ruined.
Meanwhile, Natalie dropped the dress and threw the scissors on top of it before glancing sideways at Mary.
“The dress was too fragile. It ripped on its own.”
Mary was panicked. “I… I don’t understand what you mean.
Natalie stood up slowly and walked over to Mary, stopping right in front of her. “Mary, this dress was not very
well–made. It ripped on its own. If Mr. Pereira asks, that’s what you’ll tell him.‘
Mary was even more flustered–Natalie was being a little creepy right now. Swallowing, she said, “I’m just a
housekeeper, Mrs. Pereira. Don’t worry. I won’t say anything I shouldn’t.
Natalie nodded and went back to her room
That night, Jason arrived as promised.
When he saw Natalie still wearing a denim skirt and a simple shirt, he frowned. “Why aren’t you wearing the dress I prepared for you?”
Mary, who had walked Natalie out of the house, piped up, “The dress wasn’t very well–made. It ripped on its
Own”
Jason raised his eyebrow disbelievingly. “It ripped on its own?”
Mary lowered her head guiltily, avoiding his gaze.
“The fabric was too fragile,” Natalie explained. “I tugged at it a little, and it fore.”
Jason was suspicious. The fabric shouldn’t tear from a little tugging. It wasn’t like it was paper
Natalie had worn jeans and a white tee at the Spencers‘ family dinner two days ago. Later, after she allegedly. pushed Sienna down the stairs and everything descended into chaos, Jason had forgotten about that detail.
Now that he thought about it, Natalie’s recent outfits mainly consisted of pants and T–shirts. She hadn’t worn any of the dresses he had bought for her
He stepped close and wrapped his arm around her waist. “You look better in a dress, Natalie,” he said softly
Was that so? Was it really her who looked nicer in a dress, or was that Sienna?
Since their wedding three years ago, Jason had taken charge of her wardrobe and outfits.
Most of the clothes he bought for her were fitted dresses.
Natalie had never thought much about it. She believed he just liked them, and she was willing to please him. Even though she found the fitted dresses uncomfortable, she was still happy to dress up for the man she loved.
It was only recently that she found out that Jason didn’t like fitted dresses all that much—he just liked fitted
dresses when Sienna wore them.
It was one thing not to love her, but treating her like a fool just to fulfill his delusions was a little too much.
Natalie’s heart ached as she frowned.
Three years. Three years of devotion, three years of deception, and three years of sacrifice.
After tonight, it would all end.
“Is that so?” she asked lightly. “But I like the way I am now better.”
Then, she reached for the car door and got in without hesitation.
Annoyance surged in Jason at that
Why was Natalie being so contrary these days? It made him feel less in control. Was it really because she had
fallen for someone else?
Unbidden, Jason recalled the men’s jacket he had seen the other morning. He should have had Chandler check who it belonged to
Ne gor into the car and sat beside Natalie
By force of habit, he took her hand and entwined his fingers between hers. When Natale did nu
leaned in closer. “I didn’t mean you don’t look good in your current outfit. I just think they do
you.
Was he really trying to gaslight her again?
Natalie felt cold all over. She really wanted to see with her own eyes if Jason was just as heartl
unblinking as the rumors said when he said these self–righteous words.
She wanted to know the true colors of the man she had loved for three years.
