Mary was on tenterhooks and didn’t dare meet Jason’s gaze “Mrs. Pereira isn’t back yet. I tried calling her, but f
was told her number has been unsubscribed
Unsubscribed?
Jason frowned deeply, and the atmosphere tumed tense. Then, he ran upstairs and burst into the master bedroom Natalie’s familiar figure was nowhere in sight, and the desolate emptiness smothered hirn
He headed to the walk–in wardrobe to see that none of the clothes were missing
“Thank God,” he thought. She was just throwing a tantrum–it was clear she wanted him to coax her with
sweet talk
Jason relaxed. Just as he was about to turn away, something hit him. None of Natalie’s clothes were missing- the ones that he’d bought for her. The ones that she’d brought with her when she’d married hirm were nowhere
to be found.
He ran out of the wardrobe to see that the photo of them, which had originally been on the bedside table, was
gone. The jewelry in the jewelry box was intact, though
For some reason, his gaze traveled to the trash can, where he saw the pieces of the sketchbook that Natalie had ripped. Something told him to pick them up.
He saw the tom portraits. Though they were ripped beyond hope of salvation, he could still tell who the portraits were of. Each page of the sketchbook showed him in different scenes, and they were almost lifelike. It was evident that Natalie had poured her heart and soul into them
Jason didn’t know how to feel when he saw them. Throughout their three–year marriage, he’d noticed that
Natalie liked tending to the flowers at home and basking in the sun. She liked doing the things that she could,
and she enjoyed each day with quiet serenity
Despite not being able to see, he’d never once heard her complain or beat herself up over it. She was like a
gentle ray of sunshine
Even Jason had to admit that he was used to living with her. That was why he’d never once imagined her
running away from home in a fit of anger
He couldn’t understand it. All he’d done was stand her up on her birthday. Was it necessary for her to get this
had? She could’ve just waited for him to come home before dealing with this matter face to face What was
the point of running away?
Or was it as Sienna had said- that Natalie had picked up the tricks other women pulled and was playing hard to
get?
Jason put the sketchbook away, thinking that he had to remind Natalie not to pull something like this again when he saw her again. He was busy and didn’t have time for these games
He pulled out his phone, wanting to tell Chandler to send some people out to track Natalie down. He would give her an out since she was pregnant with his child. What if something happened to her and the baby while she
was out there?
He pinched his nose bridge with one hand while holding his phone with the other. Then, he headed to the balcony, feeling irritated.
But the moment the call was answered, Jason’s gaze locked onto something, and he froze. After several seconds, he bent down to pick up the court summons from the glass table, his gaze filled with disbelief
Natalie had filed for divorce? She’d already submitted a divorce agreement to the courts?
Jason took a long time to process this as he stared at the summons. Then, he picked up a medical record, along
with a glass container that was placed at the center of the table.
It held a bloody piece of flesh. If one took a close look, one could vaguely see what seemed to be like four limbs.
Jason’s eyes widened, and his heart throbbed painfully. He felt like something became lodged in his throat, and
his hands trembled violently. He mumbled, “N–No, this can’t be. I don’t believe it. I don’t!”
His eyes bulged and reddened as he staggered backward, his tone almost horrified as he shouted, “This is the
baby? You’re lying to me! You must be lying to me!”
