Rowan took a bigger step forward as he reminded, “Landon, stay here at all times.”
Landon made an “okay” gesture, thinking that he could finally take a break. He had been driving al Hallsbrook, and the accelerator was close to breaking down. Things hadn’t been easy for him.
vay from Grendale to
He could only blame it on Malcolm. Three months ago, Natalie had been looking for a private investigator in Grendale, but no one wanted to accept the job.
Rowan had told Landon to think of a solution, and after pondering for a long time, Landon had thought of his childhood friend, Malcolm.
Malcolm reluctantly accepted the job, but he was used to acting freely and doing everything he wished. Taking this incident as an example, Malcolm had told Natalie about Kevin without informing Landon beforehand.
Again, Malcolm had done things without prior notice. Fortunately, Natalie was fine. If anything were to happen to her, Rowan would rip Landon into pieces.
Just the thought of that made Landon shudder.
Meanwhile, Rowan brought Natalie for a detailed checkup. He only carried her back to the treatment room after ensuring that she was fine.
When the mini truck sped over just now, Natalie’s arm was scraped while she was pulling Kevin. She had been so worried about his injuries that she didn’t even notice the wound on her own body.
Her skin was straped, revealing the bloody flesh. Natalie only felt the pain when the nurse cleaned her wound.
That was why Rowan had brought her to treat her wound as soon as he saw her.
When he saw her forehead covered in sweat because she was in so much pain, his face instantly fell. “Get someone else to do the dressing if you don’t know how to do it right!”
Having been bellowed at by Rowan all of a sudden, the nurse was shocked, then retorted, “The wound is so deep. She’ll definitely feel the pain when I do the dressing. If you feel so sorry for your girlfriend, don’t let her get hurt in the first place.”
Girlfriend?
Natalie’s face flushed red at the nurse’s words. Then, she stole a glance at Rowan. He furrowed his brows and looked so awkward that he didn’t retort a word.
Since he didn’t explain to the nurse about their relationship, Natale remained silent. If not, it would make her response seem too intentional.
The wound on her arm was about a few inches long and was wrapped with a thick bandage. The blood on her clothes had dried up, Natalie knew how awful she looked even without checking in the mirror.
Rowan didn’t say anything when they left the treatment room.
Natalie cleared her throat and broke the silence. “Mr. Mattel, you hold a grudge against Jason, so helping me is also helping yourself in a way. What do you think?”
Natalie wanted Rowan to help her secretly send Kevin overseas. Then, Kevin would be declared “dead” in the car accident in
Dexia.
In that case, Jason would stop going after Kevin, and Kevin’s dream to study abroad could also be fulfilled.
Rowan stopped in his tracks, then stared at her with his deep–set eyes. “Do you think Kevin would be thankful to you and be your witness if you helped him?”
An unyielding smile crept across Natalie’s face. “I don’t need him to thank me. He got into the accident because of me. I’m just

making up for it by sending him abroad. He owes me nothing. Of course, he can keep turning me down, but I won’t just give up like that.”
Rowan arched his brows. “Would your effort go down the drain, then?”
Natalie looked into the distance, and her calui gaze was replaced with a determined look. “This isn’t we end of the journey yet, so how can I be sure that it must be a dead end instead of a path leading me to brighter days?”
A brief moment later, Natalie glanced back.
Rowan fixed his eyes on her, his gaze full of affection. Suddenly, he stepped forward and pulled her into his embrace.
