Chapter 8
It was a dark brown suit jacket–Jason did not have any clothes in that color, so it couldn’t
be his.
For some reason, the jacket’s presence made him uncomfortable. But he did not love
Natalie, so he attributed this reaction to a man’s inherent possessiveness
wife, so no other man should dare to touch her
Natalie was his
He glanced over at Natalie, who was sleeping on the bed. His annoyance weighed heavily on him, almost suffocating him.
More than once, he considered waking her up and questioning her about the jacket, but after thinking it over, he gave up on the notion.
It was noon when Natalie woke up. Starving, she walked out of the bedroom, saying, “Mary, I’m hungry. Do you have anything I can eat now?”
Instead of a reply from Mary, she heard Jason’s voice. “Mary is out. What do you want to eat? I’ll cook.”
Startled, Natalie looked toward the sound of his voice. “Why are you home?”
She was surprised by Jason’s presence. By rights, he should be with Sienna right now. Why was he home?
Unless…
Natalie had an ominous feeling.
“I need to talk to you about something,” Jason said. Then, he paused. “But before that, answer my question.”
Natalie heard his footsteps approaching. He stopped in front of her, holding the suit jacket.
Whose jacket is this?”
Natalie remembered the jacket–but why would Jason fuss over such a trivial matter?
There could only be one reason he was too deep in his act and had decided to go all out.
In Jason’s eyes, Natalie looked pale, and her response was perfunctory. “The cab driver lent that to me when he drove me home this morning. I forgot to return it when he dropped me
off ”
Jason frowned, his eyes cold.
He had inspected the jacket. It was from a bespoke luxury brand in Vitale: A cab driver would
not be able to afford it.
His first thought was that Natalie was lying to him. Then again, as he quickly realized, why was he even bothering about such an insignificant matter?
He did not believe that any wealthy, powerful man would be interested in a blind, married
woman.
With that in mind, he took a deep breath and got to the point. “Come with me to the Spencer
residence.”
Natalie’s guard was up instantly. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Jason tossed the jacket onto the couch and put both his hands in his pockets. Under the afternoon sun, his handsome features appeared more striking and defined. “You pushed Sienna down the stairs yesterday, so you need to go and apologize to her.
Just as she’d expected.
Natalie took a step back, feeling as if her heart had been plunged into an icy abyss. Her pale face turned even whiter. “I’m not going. Don’t even think about it
Gripping her cane tightly, she tried to go back upstairs, but Jason stopped her.
His brows furrowed in frustration. “Natalie, if Sienna can forgive you for your vicious acts, why can’t you apologize to her? What do you have to lose?” he demanded impatiently.
25 BOAR
She had plenty to lose. She never pushed Sienna down the stairs, so why should she have to apologize?
Sienna had staged the whole thing herself and fooled everyone. They might be wrapped around her fingers and willing to play along, but Natalie wasn’t.
“Because I am a vicious person,” Natalie said coldly. “You’ve known me long enough, haven’t you?”
Jason was furious. “Don’t push it, Natalie.”
Natalie’s chest ached painfully.
Who was the one pushing it here?
Sienna was unharmed, while Natalie had been slapped by Jason, kicked by Victor, and scolded by Daphne, to the point where she almost miscarried.
And now, Jason wanted her to apologize.
For what?
Natalie’s throat tightened. She wanted to ask Jason why he was treating her like this. Did
she really deserve all this?
But the words died in her throat as helplessness overwhelmed her
To the Spencers and Jason, she had always been the one left behind, the one ignored. They
would never pity her. They would only think that she deserved what she got
Abruptly, she laughed.
Since Sienna loved acting so much, casting Natalie as the heartless villain, Natalie would help her it would be her final act, since she was leaving Grendale soon.
“Fine. I’ll go,” she said
Jason breathed a sigh of relief
Thank goodness she agreed to go. If she had refused, he honestly didn’t know what else he
could do
Though Natalie had said she was hungry earlier, she now had no appetite for food
During the journey from Avon Villa to the Spencer residence, Natalie sat silently in the car
not uttering a word.
Perhaps sensing the tension, Jason tried to ease the atmosphere. “Natalie, you did a wrong thing, so it’s only right that you apologize. You’re my wife. You should know better.”
Natalie found that laughable.
Jason had said many such righteous things before. How did she never realize how hypocritical he was?
She remained silent, but unexpectedly, Jason took her hand.
Instinctively, she tried to pull away, but he tightened his grip. “I’m sorry for hitting you yesterday, Natalie. I apologize for it. I was just too upset and lost control.”
Natalie kept her face blank and expressionless. “Jason, if it had been Sienna who pushed me down the stairs, would you have lost control and slapped her?” she asked lightly
The silence that fell over them was deafening.
Natalie let out a bitter laugh and closed her eyes, turning her head toward the window.
The road was clear, so they soon arrived at the Spencer residence.
The Spencers‘ maid, Heidi Meyers, showed obvious disdain when she saw Natalie. “Suc audacity, showing up here again. You won’t rest until you’ve killed Ms. Spencer, will you?”
For once, Natalie did not let her get away with the disrespect. “Clever, aren’t you? You got it in one,” she sneered right back.
Heidi was stunned. Had Natalie lost her mind? How dare she talk like that?
ustered and furious, Heidi stammered, “You You
Jason’s face darkened. “That’s enough. Natalie is here to apologize Move aside
Heidi had no qualms about disrespecting Natalie, but she did not dare to offend Jason, so she opened the door and let them in.
As soon as Natalie stepped over the threshold, she heard Sienna call out in a saccharine
voice. “Jason, you’re here! Come on in. I just finished a painting. Tell me if you like it.”
Sienna took Jason’s arm intimately, like it was the most natural thing to do. Jason, too used
to it, thought nothing of it
When Sienna noticed Natalie trailing in behind Jason, she feigned surprise and shrank fearfully into Jason’s embrace. “Jason, why is Natalie here?”
Jason soothed her gently. “Don’t be scared. Natalie is here to apologize to you.”
“I’ve already forgiven her,” Sienna said timidly. “She doesn’t need to apologize anymore.
Let’s just forget it, Jason.”
Jason wouldn’t have it. “No, that won’t do. She made a mistake. All I’m asking is for her to
apologize—it’s the least she can do. Sienna, I know you’re kind, but you mustn’t encourage
her bad behavior.”
Bad behavior?
Natalie’s heart felt as if it had broken into pieces. This was the man she had loved and slept
with for three years. She had never realized just how stupid she’d been
No wonder she was always the one getting hurt
Fine. She would give them the apology they asked for
Sienna nodded and walked over to Natalie. Smiling brightly, she took Natalie’s hand and said, “I forgive you, Natalie. We can still be friends, right?”
Then, with a sinister glint in her eyes, she leaned close and whispered in a voice that only
the two of them could hear, “You’ve finally learned your place and come to apologize. Does your face still hurt?
“Victor didn’t hold back when he kicked you. If only it had landed on your belly, then your little bastard could’ve gone to hell.”
The next moment, a loud slap echoed through the room.
