“Hazel, Damon had something to attend to. He’ll probably be late. Congratulations, this is the gift from me and your Grandpa.”
Jamal handed her a thick cream envelope, and Hazel received it with a smile, handing it to Sully who was behind her.
The envelopes were so large that she couldn’t manage them all on her own. The upper class in Country A typically give envelopes with checks containing large sums of money at every banquet as gifts, so Sully had come along to help her with them today.
“Thank you, Uncle Jamal and Grandpa Mark. Please, do go ahead and take a seat.”
After a few words with them, Hazel turned to leave, only to find Omar looking very displeased.
She quickly walked over to him. “Grandpa, what’s wrong? I only spoke with them for a little while-wasn’t that okay?”
“Wasn’t okay? I never wanted them here. If it weren’t for you insisting on sending them invitations, I wouldn’t have invited them to such an important event. And then, as soon as we walked in, they brought up Damon like you were so eager for him to be here,” Omar grumbled.
“Okay, Dearest Grandpa, don’t be upset. You’re the one I call Dearest Grandpa, so stop being childish. There are so many guests
outside-let’s not cause a scene.”
Omar puffed his cheeks, fuming as he walked off to greet other guests.
As the banquet was nearing its end, Damon and Xander finally arrived together. There were quite a few young people who had come, hoping to matchmake their children with Hazel.
But compared to the just-arrived Damon and Xander, their children didn’t quite measure up.
“Look at this! The two rivals showing up together? What a coincidence, they must’ve bumped into each other at the door.”
“Sully! Stop with the ‘rivals’ nonsense! Keep your voice down, or it’ll be awkward if someone hears you.”
With that, they made their way directly toward Xander.
