Ever since she learned my identity, she had sold their old house overnight and fled with the money.
Chloe’s eyes were bloodshot, her hair dry and messy like tangled weeds.
She looked at me, her eyes filled with resentment.
“Scarlett Vance, do you really have to do this? You wicked woman! No wonder Liam didn’t like you, you deserve to be alone.”
She stood ramrod straight.
But I could see she was forcing herself; her shoulders were still trembling slightly.
Liam didn’t dare look at me, his head bowed very low.

Only when the bailiff called his name did he flinch violently and respond in a muffled voice.
Those few ‘friends‘ who had egged them on were also miserable.
They were all from ordinary families; where had they ever seen a scene like this?
Fear and regret were almost palpable, their every breath tinged with cowardice.
“Judge, I didn’t know she really had asthma, I’m innocent.”

“I don’t want to go to jail, my parents only have me, what will happen to them if something happens to me?”
“It was all Chloe, she misled us.”
A slight commotion broke out in the courtroom.
The bailiffs sharply ordered silence.
Only then did the defendant’s side quiet down.
Chloe, however, was like a lit firecracker, struggling wildly regardless of the consequences.
She pointed at me, screaming.
“Bitch, if you hadn’t shamelessly stolen Liam, how would I have ended up like this? You forced me into this!”
Her voice was harsh and grating, strikingly out of place in the courtroom.
I met her gaze, my expression calm and unwavering.
Liam suddenly looked up at me then.

His eyes held a hint of pleading.
“Scarlett, please let Chloe go, she was just… just momentarily confused. For old times‘ sake…”
“Old times‘ sake?”
I repeated his words softly.
It was just laughable.
“Have you forgotten that you almost killed me?”
Liam’s lips trembled, he wanted to retort but didn’t know how.
My lawyer began presenting the case.

“Chloe deliberately confiscated the asthma patient’s emergency inhaler, nearly causing her death.”
“The other individuals witnessed the plaintiff’s distress, not only failing to assist but actively preventing her from self–rescuing…”
“Finally, Liam, being in a close, romantic relationship with the plaintiff, should bear greater responsibility!”
At the conclusion of the statement, even the usually arrogant Chloe trembled with fear.
