Chapter 6
Colton gripped my chin, his voice urgent and his brow furrowed with worry.
Usually, aside from his calm and composed expression, I rarely saw such emotion on his face.
Before I could explain, Colton kissed me forcefully.
That kiss felt like he was reclaiming something he had once lost, filled with possession and unwillingness to let go.
Only when my lips were slightly swollen did he finally pull back a little.
I pressed my hand to my chest, breathing heavily.
I explained, “I wasn’t trying to escape. I just wanted to help Daisy leave. She’s not happy staying here.”
Colton’s eyes were bloodshot-this time I had truly frightened him.
He said, “You better not be lying to me.”
I tentatively reached out to hold his hand, my thumb gently tracing the lines on the back of his hand.
I said, “How would I dare lie to you? If you don’t believe me, check my flight records-I haven’t bought a single ticket.”
“How did you know we were at the airport?”
Whether out of curiosity or to ensure my next escape plan would
be foolproof, I mustered the courage to ask.
Colton unbuttoned the top button of his shirt, revealing his collarbone.
He said, “I bought this car personally. The dashcam is linked to my phone number.”
“Also, did you think I didn’t know about you secretly watching me in the study?”
“Mrs. Hoffman, scheming isn’t your strong suit.”
After saying this, he rolled down the window to cool off for a moment, then continued driving.
But I was left flustered by that “Mrs. Hoffman.”
After all, I had been drunk when I heard it last night, but hearing it sober now left me somewhat dazed.
I said, “Can’t you do something about Marcus? He’s married but still such a playboy.”
I didn’t even realize I had voiced my thoughts out loud.
Colton said, “Marcus will explain things to Daisy himself.”
“Besides, you’re my wife-you can manage him too.”
Colton said this so naturally that I turned to stare at him in a
daze.
I asked, “Colton, isn’t this just a transaction between us? Why are you so good to me?”
After a long silence, he slowly spoke, “Vanessa, you’re the only one treating this as a transaction.”
“I’ve been planning to marry you from the very beginning.”
These two sentences exploded like thunder in my mind.
Even after the car pulled up to our front door, I still hadn’t recovered. He had to carry me upstairs.
After tormenting me all night, he finally let me be.
Over the next few days, Daisy and I were like prisoners, closely watched by the two brothers.
Even when they had to go to the office, Daisy and I had to
accompany them.
I lay bored on the couch in Colton’s office.
This was New York’s tallest office building, and Colton’s office was on the top floor.
Looking down from the window, the people and cars on the street looked like tiny ants.
Daisy hadn’t contacted me for several days.
It wasn’t until I got so angry I refused to eat that Colton told me Marcus had confiscated Daisy’s phone. He was afraid this sister-in-law would help his wife escape again.
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
Daisy must have gotten a satisfactory explanation from Marcus.
Otherwise, knowing her as I do, she would have found a way to contact me even if it meant crying and making a scene.
At the moment, I was alone in the office-Colton had gone meeting.

Just as I was about to get up and wander around, I heard the door open behind me.
Thinking it was Colton returning, I quickly said, “You’re finally back! I’m dying of boredom.”
Lately, Colton and I had been getting along well. Although he remained cold and distant in front of others, I knew he was actually quite reserved by nature.”
So now, I had become somewhat spoiled and unrestrained around him. Except for the matter of escaping, I could say and do almost anything I wanted.
Suddenly, a female voice rang out, “Colton works so hard, and all you know how to do is play?”
The person who entered wasn’t Colton, but a woman.
I turned around to see it was Rebecca, dressed flamboyantly.
She had doused herself in excessive perfume-the scent was overpowering and pungent. Being naturally sensitive to smells, I immediately sneezed several times in a row.
