Chapter 16
“In the past, I thought I loved you.”
“So, even though I knew from the beginning that you were just trying to use my dad, trying to climb up the Keane family tree, trying to get your name written into the Keane family genealogy, to transcend your class. I
don’t care.”
He spoke calmly, stating the long–decayed truth.
“I thought, if you truly liked me, even just a little bit, I would be willing to support you.”
“I, James, had the ability to help you fulfill any of your wishes.”
His gaze fell on her pale face, approaching closer, the chill emanating from him almost freezing Jessie in place.
He gritted his teeth, each word squeezed out as if from between clenched teeth, filled with suppressed anger and utter disappointment.
“But I was wrong.”
“You were not sincere, and you had no conscience!”
“From beginning to end, all you thought about was using me!”
“You never really wanted to be with me.”
“So you were afraid, afraid of the grand wedding, afraid of the media digging deep, afraid of those shady calculations, afraid of those rumors. and gossip that you couldn’t bear exposed in the sunlight!”

Chapter 16
Jessie was forced by him to retreat repeatedly, her back against the cold. wall, with no way to retreat.
James’s eyes swept across her face like a knife.
“I have never revealed my feelings to you, do you know why?”
“It’s just because I had imagined this possibility.”
“The fact proved… my worries were completely justified.”
Jessie was co
completely panicked, tears rolling down her cheeks like beads. on a broken string.
She suddenly pounced, grabbing James‘ sleeve tightly and speaking incoherently.
No! James… it’s not like that! Listen to me explain! Listen to me!
James’s eyes narrowed, and he swung his arm forcefully.
“Get lost!”
Jessie was dumped by him and staggered, almost falling down.
He didn’t even look at her, his voice cold and devoid of any warmth.
“I didn’t want to see you now.”
He turned to the side and ordered the maid, who had long been scared into silence.
“Take her back to the room and keep an eye on her.”
“Yes, Mr. Keane, the maid trembled as she responded, quickly stepping forward to support Jessie.”
Chapter 16
Jessie cried heartbreakingly, clinging tightly to the door frame, refusing to leave.
“James! I was sincere! I really was sincere! I was just… I was just scared!”
“You believed me! Please believe me!”
James couldn’t even be bothered to give her a glance.
He straightened his back, took long strides without looking back, and walked out of the villa step by step.
The cold night wind poured into his collar, clearing his muddled mind slightly.
Originally, Isabella was right.
– Only when he got drunk did he realize who he truly loved.
On that rainy night, he got drunk and passed out, but in his subconscious, he repeatedly dialed that familiar number.
The moment the phone was answered, he blurted out the answer he wanted to tell her.
He liked her.
It was James who liked Isabella.
It’s ridiculous that he was so slow to realize this.
After the whole day, he finally figured it out.
The one he truly loved, from beginning to end, was always only Isabella.
The one who gave up Interpol glory for him.
Chapter 16
The woman who was misunderstood by everyone, pushed away by him time and time again, but still stubbornly stood by his side.
James took out his phone and dialed his assistant’s number.
“Spare plane, went to Edinburgh.”
He wanted to see Isabella.
Never before have I been so crazily obsessed with seeing her as I am at
this moment.
