Chapter 1
The season finale of Silver Star Splash! was being filmed at Lake Serenity, Connecticut.
When the safety raft overturned, I and her adoptive sister Miss Lily West both plunged into the icy water.
Without a second thought, my husband, Mr. Hawthorne, jumped in and rescued her.
He held her in his arms, looking distressed and anxious, walking away without even turning back.
It wasn’t until I was nearly drowning that the staff finally managed to pull me out of the lake.
The next morning, when I handed the divorce settlement to Hawthorne,
his face was dark. “Lily never learned to swim, so I saved her first. Are you really going to be jealous about that?”
I looked him in the eye calmly. “Sign at the bottom, please.”
Hawthorne and I calmly filed for divorce.
He furrowed his attractive brows, but this time, no emotion stirred within me.
He slipped the papers into his pocket. “I’ll drive you home.”
I shook my head. “No need.”
He seemed displeased with my response. “Evelyn, you don’t have to be like this. Three years isn’t nothing. We can still-”
I was stunned for a second. I couldn’t believe those words came from Hawthorne. After all, Lily was back, and he should
have been happy that I was giving them space.
“Hawthorne, to me, divorce means divorce. We’re no longer family, and we can’t even be friends.”
“You…”
“Besides, we don’t have kids, so there’s no need to stay in contact.”Hawthorne was infuriated by my words and stormed
off.
I watched him leave, letting out a helpless sigh.
But when I thought about the balance in my bank account, all my dissatisfaction melted away.
Though I was the second daughter of the Westbrook family, I’d never received any money from them. In fact, the divorce
had turned me into a little fortune.
Hawthorne would never let me take half, so when I asked my lawyer to draft the divorce agreement, I only asked for
twenty million.
He agreed, and on top of that, he gave me two mansions in New York and Los Angeles, three properties back home, and
six luxurious apartments in prime locations.
That was more than enough to live a comfortable life.
Staring at those cold figures, I couldn’t help but laugh.

It felt so good. I could finally start living for myself.
Just 24 hours after the divorce, I was already moving into a flat in the city center.
Having it officially under my name gave me an unprecedented sense of security.
I thought I’d feel heartbroken and desperate leaving Hawthorne. After all, I had loved him during our three years of
marriage.
But unexpectedly, that night, I slept better than I had in a long time, my long-lost relaxation letting me sleep all the way
into noon of the next day.
