Chapter 10
In Hawthorne’s office, he gripped his phone tightly, watching the video of Lily West mocking him, calling him a “dead
cripple.”
A wave of anger and frustration hit him, suffocating him. His mind flashed with memories of his wife-gently massaging his leg, holding his hand during a movie, feeding him ice cream, and waiting for him after work every day.
His head felt like it was exploding. He couldn’t believe he had hurt his wife for someone like her.
The room spun as he felt overwhelmed.
His assistant dared not speak. Just then, someone tried to barge in-it was Lily.
She cried out, “Hawk, it’s all lies, believe me.”
The security guards stopped her at the door. Everyone had seen the video, and they wouldn’t let a woman like her insult
their boss.
With cold fury, Hawthorne raised his head. “Westbrook family, very well. All collaborations are canceled. Blacklist Lily West industry-wide.”
“Yes, sir,” the assistant nodded and began contacting everyone.
Mr. Hawthorne slumped back in his chair, recalling the nanny’s accusations. His wife had lived such a miserable life— a
real daughter exiled to the maid’s quarters while the fake one lived like royalty.
He wanted to slap himself for being so blind. He desperately wanted to see Evelyn.
Without wasting any time, he boarded a private plane to Yale again.
This time, he found her.
He had never seen her shine so brightly.
As she walked out of the lab, ready to enjoy the sunlight, she spotted Mr. Hawthorne, his eyes red from crying.
She had no idea what was happening online and walked toward him helplessly.
“What are you doing here?”
“Eva, I’ve missed you so much. It hurts to breath.”
“Stop, Mr. Hawthorne, we’re divorced. You should be thinking about Lily.”
“I can’t be with her. It’s always been you, and it will always be you. I love you, Eva.”
“Huh? Have you lost your mind? Mr. Hawthorne, I told you, I don’t want to see you again.”
He looked like a defeated rooster, slumping in despair. “Eva, I know everything now. I know how the Westbrooks treated you. I know all the terrible things Lily did. I was blinded before, but I won’t be anymore. I’ll make sure the Westbrook family goes bankrupt. I’ll hand you the keys. Just let me fix this.”
I glanced at him sideways, unsure what kind of delusion he was caught in.
“Eva, we were so good together. I thought you just divorced me out of anger… I’ve always missed you. I’ve never been with

Lily, I’m clean. Trust me
“And what does it matter if you never were with her? Mr. Hawthorne, we’re divorced.”
“We can remarry Please, let’s remarry. I swear, I’ll only treat you well from now on.”
He was desperate, seeking some kind of answer, but I couldn’t give it to him.
“Stop talking, Mr. Hawthorne. I don’t love you anymore. I won’t remarry you. Please leave.”
Mr. Hawthorne’s heart seemed to crumble, his whole body trembling as he looked at me. And then, unexpectedly, I saw
tears in his eyes.
I stared at him in disbelief, “What the hell is wrong with you? Look at what you’re doing.”
Before I could say anything else, I was suddenly pulled into someone’s arms.
I looked up to see Bo glaring at Mr. Hawthorne. “She asked you to leave. Don’t harass my girlfriend.”
Mr. Hawthorne looked at me in shock. “Eva, he’s lying, right? You’re not really his girlfriend?”
I sighed helplessly, “Yes, he is my boyfriend. So please, stop bothering me. Mr. Hawthorne, let’s part ways peacefully.”
Bo wrapped his arm around me and led me away, leaving behind a broken Mr. Hawthorne.
