He Picked Her 7

Chapter 7

In the days that followed, I continued to bicker with Bo, but our relationship grew much closer. I’d invite him over to enjoy Mrs. Montague’s cooking, and I’d share the snacks from home that Mrs. Hargrove had sent me.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hargrove had been reaching out to me more frequently.

She told me about a rumor online that the CEO of Hawthorne Industries and the Westbrook family’s young heiress were getting close. She mentioned how the Westbrook official website even liked a post about it.

“Dammit, isn’t this just too obvious? Lily really knows how to ride the coattails. I’m starting to suspect she’s behind these

leaks.”

I smiled lightly, continuing my call as I fiddled with the Lego set Bo had given me.

The next day, I was shocked to find that the gossip had somehow turned to me.

Bo even sent me a screenshot and asked if it was about me.

I clicked the link. Someone had leaked that I was Mr. Hawthorne’s secret wife. Another article dug up the fact that when Mr. Hawthorne visited the set, he hadn’t spoken to me but had been frequently interacting with Lily.

The entertainment industry sure knows how to play favorites-netizens called Lily Mr. Hawthorne’s ” the unattainable love.” Even some of Mr. Hawthorne’s close friends had called Lily the “little sister” who had always followed them around, saying they were childhood sweethearts. They even claimed Mr. Hawthorne was “snatched” away by me.

Then there were rumors about the “fake daughter” drama. When Lily was interviewed, she cried, saying how scared she was that I would have her sent away when I came back, that she had to prove her worth by going abroad, only to return to

find Mr. Hawthorne had been taken by me.

Fans were furious, calling me shameless, accusing me of stealing Lily’s boyfriend when she went abroad, saying she and Mr. Hawthorne were the perfect match-a cold CEO and a pure little flower. Fans went wild with the ship, creating tons of

fanart and fanfics.

I laughed while reading these half-true, half-fake stories, not caring at all. What did it have to do with me?

But Bo was furious. “Did you really like him that much back then?”

His words were tinged with jealousy, and I froze for a moment, feeling a little awkward.

Bo noticed the shift in my mood and quickly added, “I didn’t expect you to have dabbled in the entertainment industry. A

big talent like you, always exploring new fields.”

“Not really, haha.”

That evening, Mr. Hawthorne called again, his tone urgent as he told me he had handled the rumors online.

He said he and Lily were history, that they couldn’t possibly be together. I cut him off.

“Mr. Hawthorne, we’re divorced. Please don’t contact me anymore. And tell Lily, lying too much has consequences. If this

happens again, I won’t give her the chance to spread rumors about me.”

“Eva, don’t hang up, I… I miss you.”

I rolled my eyes and hung up. He said he wouldn’t hang up, but who did he think he was?

fogad do my account, which I hadn’t touched in neatly a year, and posted the chat history where my parents had pushed me into this marriage. I also uploaded both my manage certificate and divorce certificate, with the key decals

blurred out.

The chat history showed Lily’s refusal to marry Mr. Hawthome and her insistence on going abroad to study

At the end of the post, I added one line “Didn’t steal anything. Defamation is illegal @Uly West”

That night, the entire internet was in shock. After all, Lily was now a rising star, and any news about her would go viral

Even Mr. and Mrs. Westbrook messaged me, asking me to come home for a talk

1 was already six thousand miles away, buried in problem sets.

I muted every number, turned the page, and let the Atlantic swallow the noise.
