Chapter 6
Everyone’s faces went dead serious.
Cynthia stared at me like a deer in headlights, then pulled out her go–to move–her tears started flowing like she had them on tap.[]
“Lorraine, you’re totally wrong about Arthur and me.‘
Everyone fell for her wounded act, rushing to comfort her.[]
Meanwhile, they were all shooting daggers at me–the actual victim here.[]
Arthur walked over to me, his voice dripping with attitude.[]
“You need to apologize. Now!“]
Suddenly someone knocked on the private dining room door. A delivery guy came in with this huge bouquet of bright red roses.]
Cynthia practically bounced over to grab them and shoved them in my face.[]
“Lorraine, don’t be mad! I ordered these especially for you.“[]
Everyone was gushing about how thoughtful Cynthia was.
But the flowers made me stumble backward, trying to escape.]]
I knocked over my chair and Arthur completely exploded.
“Cynthia went out of her way to get you flowers as a peace offering and this is how you act?”
The pollen was making it hard to breathe–he knew damn well I was allergic to flowers.
The first time Cynthia tried to give me roses, Arthur was the one who stopped her.]
Now they were both playing dumb.
I let out a bitter laugh and swatted the flowers away.]]
The bouquet knocked over a teacup and the hot water splashed on Cynthia.]
“What the hell is wrong with you!” Arthur looked like his heart was breaking for her
He frantically grabbed her hands to check if she was hurt.]
Everyone crowded around her, even my own parents didn’t notice the red welts breaking out on my neck.]
Cynthia put on her sweet and fragile act to explain for me.
“I’m sure Lorraine didn’t mean it…”
My hands were itching like crazy. I couldn’t deal with their bullshit anymore, so I bolted for the bathroom.[]
When I splashed cold water on my face, I could see red hives spreading across my skin.[]
Chapter 6
Cynthia followed me in, her pretty eyes giving me this satisfied smirk.
“When I tell them I forgot about your flower allergy, you think anyone’s gonna blame me?“[
I looked awful in the mirror–totally wrecked from days of wedding stress.
Next to Cynthia, I looked like a complete joker.[]
My whole body was shaking under the cold water, I fired back immediately after wipping my face.[]
“Nice try getting me worked up, but you’re just picking up my leftovers. A side chick trying to level up.“[]
“If Arthur actually loved you, he wouldn’t have kept you hanging for years without making it official.“[]
That really pissed her off. She went ballistic and knocked my allergy pills out of my hands.
The bathroom floor was slick from being mopped.
When she lunged at me, she slipped and went down hard.]
“Ow! My back!“]
Arthur rushed in and immediately assumed I’d pushed her.]
He scooped her up in his arms and gave me a ice–cold stare.
“The wedding’s off. We’re fucking done.”
I let out a laugh–Arthur Esperson, you finally set me free.
