At that moment, Vanessa lay in a hospital thousands of miles away. She had left without fully
recovering.
She had bled continuously during her journey, suffering severe anemia and fainting several times,
forcing her to stop for hospital treatment.
On her third day in the hospital, she received news from the lawyer: the documents had been
delivered to Drew, who seemed to have gone mad, searching everywhere for her.
Vanessa felt nothing. She no longer loved or hated Drew–nothing he did could stir her emotions.
“Mr. Lawson, thank you. From now on, you don’t need to tell me anything about Drew.”
“Ms. Foster, are you alright? If you need anything, just let me know,” the lawyer’s voice held barely
detectable concern.
nessa’s lips curved slightly. “I’m fine, thank you. If you have time, I hope you can visit my parents
ng the memorial season.”
Of course,” Mr. Lawson agreed readily.
Vanessa thanked him again and hung up.
Once Vanessa had recovered, she once again purchased tickets for all flights departing at the same
time.
Having grown up with Drew, she knew how intelligent he was, with resources everywhere. If he didn’t give up looking, he would eventually find her.
She could only use this method to delay being found.
Vanessa had planned to travel continuously, but was stopped by a small village in the southwestern
mountains.
Halfway up the mountain was a tiny village–beautiful but extremely poor.
Only elderly people and left–behind children lived there.

The village had no school; some fortunate children were taken by their parents to study elsewhere.
But most were simply left to grow up in the village until their teens, when they would leave to find work.
Vanessa had gotten lost and accidentally arrived here. The place had only basic utilities–no internet, no entertainment.
Households exchanged their harvested grains and vegetables. If a family’s child was doing well outside, they would help those who needed food.
On her first day, Vanessa was warmly welcomed. The elderly and children adored her.
They were fascinated by her snacks and equipment as the children gathered around to hear her
explanations.
Everyone brought out their best items to welcome her.
She was amazed to find such a pure–hearted village in today’s society.
Vanessa decided to stay temporarily. Each day, listening to birdsong and insect chirps, watching the blue sky and white clouds, her mood gradually improved.
On her third day, a sudden downpour struck.
The house of an elderly woman named Lippi at the village entrance collapsed in the heavy rain. Everyone rushed to help rescue her.
“Girl, go take shelter. We’ll handle this,” Grandma Quintero, who had taken Vanessa in, pushed her
away.
“Let me help too. One more person means one more set of hands,” Vanessa insisted. Though pampered since childhood, especially during her years with Drew, she actually knew little about physical labor.
But now, she earnestly dug through the mud with her hands, trying to save Grandma Lippi.

Yet the rain grew too heavy, quickly blurring her vision. Her head felt increasingly heavy until she swayed and fainted.
When she awoke, the rain had stopped.

Grandma Quintero looked at her with concern. “Child, you’ve been feverish for three days. Our village isn’t suitable for you. You should return to the city.”
Seeing the worry and reluctance on Grandma Quintero’s face, Vanessa suddenly realized what she needed to do.
