Following Grandma Quintero’s directions, Vanessa left the mountains. Her first action upon returning to the city was to contact the relevant local authorities.
She wanted to build a road to the village, bring internet access, and let the elderly and children
connect with the outside world.
She also planned to build schools and hospitals to improve their lives.
Vanessa’s ultimate goal was to transform the village into a tourist destination, providing job
opportunities to attract those who had left to return and accompany their elderly parents and
children.
It was an enormous project. Vanessa invested over a hundred million dollars, personally leading a
team back to the village for construction.

better. Life will be much better soon,” Vanessa embraced Grandma Quintero.
The villagers didn’t understand the concept of development, but they knew Vanessa wouldn’t harm
them.
Everyone who could move came to help.
No matter how Vanessa tried to dissuade them, they insisted on contributing.
Vanessa arranged for professional medical teams to conduct health examinations for the elderly and children. She personally began teaching the children to read.
For the first time, she felt her life had meaning.
As it turned out, a world without Drew could be so rich and colorful.
One day, while explaining math problems to the children, Grandma Quintero brought someone into the classroom.

“Child, someone’s looking for you,” Grandma Quintero said with a knowing smile.
Vanessa’s heart stopped momentarily. Her first thought was that Drew had found her, and she was surprised to feel annoyance rise within her.
She liked her current life and didn’t want any more connection with Drew.
She frowned as she looked toward the door, then froze.
Grandma Quintero pushed the man behind her forward. “I’ve checked him out for you–he’s not a bad person.”
“Thank you for the compliment, Grandma. I’ll always strive to be good,” the lawyer, Mr. Lawson, wore a black tracksuit as he stood in the doorway. His smile was as warm as the sunlight behind
him.
Vanessa stood up, looking at him in astonishment. “Mr. Lawson, how did you find this place?”
“I came to find you,” he said straightforwardly.
“Find me?” Vanessa tried to think of any contracts they might have left unresolved.
Since her parents‘ deaths, Vanessa had hired professional managers to oversee the company, and Mr. Lawson was no longer Foster Industries‘ legal counsel.
She had asked him to handle her property issues with Drew and had paid his legal fees in full.
During her relationship with Drew, she had barely maintained any social life of her own and wasn’t particularly friends with Mr. Lawson.
She couldn’t imagine why he would come looking for her.
“Vanessa, you really don’t remember me? Five years ago, you were in that car accident because you saved me.” Mr. Lawson’s eyes flashed with sorrow as he mentioned the past.
Five years ago, he should have been the one hit by that car. His half–brother had hired someone to kill him, and just as the car was about to strike, Vanessa had pulled him aside.
The driver, furious at her interference, had deliberately run her down instead.
