When Vanessa next awoke, she was in a hospital, momentarily disoriented.
She touched her flat belly, her heart aching sharply–the baby was gone.
“Bed 23, where are your family members? We need additional payment. You’ve suffered heavy metal poisoning and need to cooperate with the police investigation. Your baby… couldn’t be saved,” the nurse explained, seeing she was awake.
Vanessa’s fingers trembled as she picked up her phone to call Drew. It showed his phone was turned
off.
A bitter smile crossed her face. Since leaving last night, he hadn’t answered any of her calls, nor had
he tried to find her.
He had once promised to appear instantly whenever she needed him.
Yet now, he wouldn’t answer her calls because he was with Talia.
“No family. I’ll pay myself,” Vanessa replied weakly.
“You can’t get out of bed. Let me help you with the paperwork. You rest,” the nurse kindly stopped
Vanessa.
She made some notes and left the room, sighing to herself: “Women’s lives can be so different.
There’s a woman with just threatened miscarriage, and her husband is beside himself with
worry–booked an entire VIP floor and flew in top medical teams from around the world to save her
pregnancy.”
The nurse glanced back at Vanessa. “This poor woman was poisoned and miscarried, yet she doesn’t even have anyone here for her.”
Vanessa overheard the nurse’s words, knowing she was talking about Drew and Talia, but felt nothing at all.
During her hospital stay, Vanessa arranged for the glass fragments to be tested, determined to find out who had poisoned her.

His Double Life Crashed. My Empire Soared!
Chapter 5
By the time she was discharged, Drew still hadn’t contacted her.
She went directly to her family’s old mansion, taking only her mother’s rings and storing precious mementos in a permanent safety deposit box.
She planned to sell the mansion and never return.
Next, she went to change her legal name. She needed to ensure Drew would never find her.
When Vanessa returned home, she found Talia curled up on the sofa, wrapped in her blanket,
munching snacks while watching a drama series.
She frowned slightly, but before she could speak, Talia stood up from the sofa.
“You’re back! Have you eaten? Drew went to buy cake. Should I have him bring you a chocolate one?” Talia smiled, her eyes betraying undisguised triumph.
Who gave you permission to touch my things?” Vanessa asked coldly, looking at the messy coffee table, her chest tightening.
She had always disliked others touching her belongings or making a mess in her home.
Drew knew her habits and rarely brought people over. If he did, he would clean and disinfect
afterward
But now, he was actually allowing Talia to lie in her spot, use her blanket, eat her snacks…
‘Are you angry? Here, I’ll give them back,” Talia dumped the chips directly onto Vanessa, raising an eyebrow. “Pick them up-”
Vanessa was startled, about to speak when Talia knelt down and began cleaning up the mess.
I’m sorry, I was starving and couldn’t help eating your snacks. Don’t be mad–I’ll clean everything up right now.” Talia’s eyes reddened with tears that threatened to fall.
Honey, what’s going on here?”
The sudden shift in demeanor caught Vanessa off guard. Only when she heard Drew’s voice behind her did she understand what was happening.
Chapter 5
Vanessa turned around, just in time to see Drew looking at Talia on the floor, clearly catching the flash of concern in his eyes.
“I shouldn’t have touched Vanessa’s things without permission,” Talia said with a sob.
“Well, my wife doesn’t like others touching her things. Why is the living room such a mess?” Drew frowned. “Take your cake and go home. Don’t come here again.”
Talia froze momentarily, slowly rising to accept the cake Drew handed her.
The next second, however, Talia stumbled as if losing her balance and crashed directly into Vanessa, who began falling backward.
In that split second, Drew rushed forward and caught Talia in his arms.
While Vanessa fell heavily, the back of her head hitting the shoe cabinet. Blood immediately began lowing as dizziness overwhelmed her. The last thing she saw was Drew holding Talia tightly…
