Chapter 6
Vanessa slept for a long time. When she finally woke up thirsty and disoriented, the room was pitch
black.
She struggled to sit up, instinctively reaching for the bedside table where Drew always left a glass of warm water for her every night.
Yet tonight, there was nothing.
Vanessa felt a hollow emptiness, then laughed bitterly at herself. After Talia’s pregnancy, Drew couldn’t possibly maintain his past devotion, no matter how he pretended.
She got up and headed downstairs, stopping when she heard Drew’s voice coming from the guest
room.
“It’s my fault Vanessa got hurt. I shouldn’t have been so careless,” Talia sobbed.
“You’re pregnant and can’t go hungry. Vanessa was overreacting. It’s my fault for spoiling her too much. Don’t cry anymore–it breaks my heart to see you like this.” Drew held her, stroking her hair. ‘You’ve become such a crybaby lately.”
‘Don’t scold me,” Talia pouted, her seductive face painted with an enticing vulnerability.
Drew’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he averted his gaze. They’d been too intense on the boat, almost causing Talia to miscarry. He couldn’t risk it now.
‘Drew, do you miss it? Too bad Vanessa’s injured, so she can’t satisfy you either.”
Even uninjured, she’s not as tempting as you, my little vixen. I can control myself. After the baby’s table, you won’t get off so easily.” Drew’s lips curved upward.
I can still help you,” Talia said, sliding down to kneel between Drew’s legs…
Her seductive face combined with her innocent voice created a powerful contrast that, along with
er actions, drew a groan from Drew.
Mmm, you little slut, you’re so damn good at this.”

Chapter 6
Witnessing this scene again, Vanessa felt nothing. She numbly continued downstairs for water.
Perhaps due to her head injury, she slept deeply until late the following evening.
“Baby, I tried to save you, but you fell too quickly for me to catch you…” Drew began explaining when he saw her awake, his gaze shifting uncomfortably.
Vanessa looked at him, not bothering to expose his lie, but asked flatly: “Where’s Talia?”
“Blame me if you must. The girl’s clumsy–she didn’t mean to bump into you. She almost got hurt
herself.” Drew defended Talia.
“I see,” Vanessa replied calmly, showing no emotional reaction. “Tomorrow is my parents‘ death
anniversary. Will you come with me?”
“Of course,” Drew, relieved that Vanessa wasn’t angry, agreed immediately, though he glanced at her

mething different about her. The love in her eyes when she looked at him seemed
Drew wanted to ask, but Vanessa had already closed her eyes.
All night she drifted in and out of sleep, barely responding when Drew spoke to her.
The next day was the anniversary of her parents‘ deaths. Vanessa got up early, showered, and changed into black casual wear, getting into Drew’s car.
Drew thoughtfully prepared breakfast and items for the memorial service. Seeing her gloomy expression, he felt concerned, assuming she was sad about her parents, and tried to distract her with conversation throughout the journey.
Vanessa showed little interest, barely responding.
Just as they reached the cemetery, Drew received a phone call. His expression immediately tensed,
and he slammed on the brakes at the roadside.
Vanessa lurched forward unexpectedly, her shoulder bruised by the seatbelt. “What’s wrong?” she
winced.
“Baby, there’s an emergency at the company. I need to handle it quickly,” Drew said, his face ashen,

his eyes filled with unmistakable anxiety and concern. “Go ahead and visit your parents. I’ll be back
soon.”
Vanessa nodded accommodatingly and opened the car door. Before she was even steady on her feet,
Drew anxiously drove off, nearly pulling her down.
Watching the dust kicked up by the tires, Vanessa smiled faintly.
Drew had forgotten his phone was connected to Bluetooth–she’d clearly seen the contact was saved as “Talia Baby.”
Talia was hurt and had called Drew crying. Without hesitation, he’d abandoned Vanessa to go to her.
But Vanessa no longer cared.
She had already stopped loving Drew. Even her resentment toward him seemed to have faded.
