Chapter 7
Vanessa knelt before her parents‘ graves, bowing deeply three times. “Mom, Dad, Drew has fallen in love with someone else. I’m leaving him and this place.”
“Five years ago, he was already waiting for Talia to grow up, while I remained completely in the dark. They’re married now–the kind of marriage that can’t be dissolved.”
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll take care of myself. Forgive your daughter for not being able to take you with me. Once I’m settled, I’ll come back to visit you.”
Vanessa’s voice was calm and steady. She had come to terms with Drew’s betrayal, though she couldn’t help crying at the thought of leaving her parents behind.
All day, Drew never reappeared.
The cemetery was in a remote location requiring a walk along a small path to reach the main road. After saying goodbye to her parents, Vanessa slowly made her way toward the road.
After walking a short distance, Vanessa sensed someone following her. She quickened her pace, taking out her phone to call for help.
Before she could make the call, the person caught up with her, covering her mouth with a cloth.
Vanessa struggled fiercely, but her vision suddenly darkened as she was drugged unconscious.
An icy sensation shocked her awake–someone had thrown a bucket of ice water on her.
She found herself tied to a pillar, her eyes blindfolded, her body shivering violently from the cold.
“Who are you? Why did you kidnap me?” Vanessa shouted, her voice trembling. Unknown terror washed over her, filling her with fear.
“Say something! Who are you?”
“If it’s money you want, I’ve got it–I’ve got PLENTY! Just give me an account number and I’ll wire it right now, I swear!”
Vanessa couldn’t see anything, and no matter how desperately she questioned, she was met with

nothing but silence.
Her clothes, soaked by the ice water, clung to her skin. The wind blew, bringing a bone–chilling cold that made her increasingly panicked as she struggled against her restraints.
“Let me go! Who the hell are you?”
“Agh!”
Vanessa suddenly cried out in pain as her attacker struck her abdomen with a rod.
“You don’t need to know who I am. You just need to pay for what you’ve done,” the person said, bringing the rod down again on her belly. She immediately felt like her internal organs were being crushed together, the pain making her eyes water.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she gasped.
The assailant stopped talking and continued beating her belly relentlessly, each blow delivered with full force as if trying to shatter her organs. She passed out from the pain, only to be cruelly awakened by it again.
By the end, she was numb to the agony. Blood soaked through her pants, and more trickled from the
corner of her mouth, staining her clothes.
The attacker finally seemed to tire, dropping the rod and untying her.
Vanessa collapsed to the floor like a broken rag doll, blood quickly pooling beneath her as she lost consciousness completely.
When she regained consciousness, no one was around. She removed the blindfold and saw a projector placed in front of her.
On screen, Drew was holding Talia, continuously kissing her forehead and comforting her. “Baby, don’t cry anymore. Everything’s okay.”
“Drew, I can’t believe it. I can’t believe Vanessa would hurt me. She’s such a good person–how could she try to harm me just because I accidentally knocked her down?” Talia sobbed, tears streaming
down her face.
“People change, I suppose.” Drew’s eyes flashed with pain. “The evidence is clear. Vanessa hired

someone to hurt you. If you hadn’t called the police in time, the consequences would have been
unthinkable.”
“Even so, you shouldn’t have retaliated for me. You shouldn’t hurt Vanessa.”
“Even now, you’re still thinking of her. Don’t worry, I just taught a lesson to the person who hurt you. As for Vanessa, I’ll find a way to warn her.”
Drew’s eyes were filled with disappointment. He was convinced Vanessa had hired someone to
harm Talia.
Vanessa lay on the ground, her body convulsing with pain as she stared at the faces on screen. It felt like her heart was being physically ripped from her body, raw and bleeding.
Drew, who once trusted her implicitly, now believed she would commit such a heinous act because of Talia’s false accusations, and had ordered someone to “teach her a lesson.”
When hearts change, everything changes with them.
She laughed through her tears.
Drew, if you ever learn the truth, will you regret this?
