Chapter 10
My adoptive mother glared at me, pointing her finger in my face and screaming: “Now you’re scared, aren’t you? You little bitch, apologize to Lydia right now! Then get out of this house! Remember, the Grant family only has one daughter, and that’s her. You’re just bottom feeder trash-”
“Enough!” Philip reached his breaking point. He stepped forward and started pushing them out.
“You bloodsucking parasites! If you come back here again, I’ll feed you to the dogs!”
James released the barking Dobermans, and the two dogs shot out like bullets.
The Stone couple were terrified, their faces twisted with fear as they quickly turned and rushed toward the estate gates.
Lydia’s smug expression instantly froze on her face.
She stamped her feet in rage: “Make those dogs stop! Are you trying to kill me for that little bitch?”
She had no real affection for the Stone couple; bringing them here was just a way to provoke me. But clearly, the result wasn’t what she’d hoped for.
Philip and James just watched her coldly, watching her grow more and more desperate.
Before long, Mrs. Stone let out a terrified scream as the two dogs clamped down on her legs, shaking violently.
Mr. Stone, the coward he’d always been, had already abandoned his wife and run off.
Lydia had promised them fifty thousand dollars if they succeeded, but clearly, his life was more important.
ames finally called off the dogs and ordered medical staff to bandage her wounds.
Mrs. Stone’s face was pale with pain, but as she was carried past me on a stretcher, she still glared at me viciously.
Little bitch, you like this, don’t you? When I recover, I’ll definitely teach you a lesson! You bastard, how dare you laugh at
ne–ahh!”
Before she could finish her rant, I slapped her.
The room fell into instant silence. Mrs. Stone was stunned, staring at me in disbelief.
You–little bitch–ahh!”
Before she could finish, I slapped her again.
Her face instantly swelled red, and her arrogant attitude clearly deflated. When I raised my hand again, she trembled and begged: “Please, stop! Please don’t!”
I smiled and slowly lowered my trembling hand. From this moment on, no one could ever bully me again.
Lydia rushed over, wanting revenge for those two slaps I’d given her.
But before she could even touch me, Philip and James instinctively rushed forward and pushed her away.
Lydia fell to the ground.
She looked up blankly, her face covered in tears.
But Philip and James only had eyes for me, full of concern. “Are you okay, Clara?”
I shook my head and kept my distance from them.
Lydia completely broke down. She could endure pain and suffering. But seeing the men she cared about most show concern for me–that was a blow she couldn’t handle.
She shakily stood up, stared at me for a few seconds, then turned and walked away, completely defeated.
Today was supposed to be a welcome dinner that Philip and James had prepared for me.
But everything was ruined. They were heartbroken and full of self–blame.
However, I showed no particular reaction and calmly sat down to eat. They didn’t dare say anything, silently keeping me
company.
The next day, I pulled out the divorce papers.
‘Sign these. The sooner you sign, the sooner we can get this over with.”
‘hilip’s fragile hope shattered. After a long silence, he asked painfully: “Can we… not get divorced?”
shot back: “Then why did I come back? To endure bullying from Lydia and her parents?”
Seeing Philip’s anguished expression, James turned to persuade me: “Clara, Philip is really sincere this time—”
Before he could finish, I cut him off sharply: “James, you no longer have the right to interfere in our affairs.”
ames froze, his eyes growing dim as the realization hit him.
He realized that the Grant family’s true heiress had grown up.
Jnder my insistence, Philip followed me to the courthouse.
The moment the divorce papers were signed, he couldn’t hold back his tears anymore.
Clara, please don’t delete my contact information, okay? Give me one more chance. I promise I’ll treat you right from now on.’
didn’t answer, nor did I acknowledge James’s outstretched hand offering to help with my luggage.
I clutched my divorce certificate with satisfaction and got into the taxi I’d already arranged.
