Chapter 21
Freda stood on stage speaking eloquently, explaining the company’s founding mission and encouraging people passionate about charity work to join their cause.
She introduced their first project–helping develop mountain villages in the west. Those areas had various wild mushrooms, and she planned to combine the local conditions with green development to attract young workers
back home…
Cyril stood in the corner, watching Freda in her business suit speaking confidently on stage, a flash of amazement in his eyes.
He hadn’t seen Freda shine like this in so long. Ever since they’d been together, she seemed trapped at the bottom of a well, with only him in her life.
She’d given everything, betting it all on loving him, and he’d let her down.
In this moment, Cyril seemed to understand Freda’s coldness and determination.
The Freda who loved him had died through his repeated lies and betrayals. Only by completely leaving him could
she be reborn.
Now Freda had her own thing going–work she actually cared about, a life she wanted to live. She’d finally escaped from the bottom of that well.
Maybe he shouldn’t keep bothering her.
“Why are you here again?” Freda came down from the stage and immediately spotted Cyril.
He looked more and more run–down, as if he was deliberately destroying himself.
“Freda, after leaving me, are you happier than before?” he asked hoarsely, staring intently at her.
“Yes.” Freda answered without hesitation.
Cyril looked down, his lips curving into a bitter smile, “I’m sorry, I hurt you before.”
“I don’t need your apology. I stopped hating you ages ago. Just go do whatever you need to do.”
Freda was distant and cold. ‘After speaking, she turned and left.
Cyril stood frozen in place, staring blankly at her retreating figure. His chest felt tight and painful, his vision gradually blurring as if something dark was blocking it.
The next moment, he collapsed to the ground.
He rested for a while, got up from the floor, and didn’t think much of it.
He found a flower shop and ordered flowers for a whole year, having them delivered to Freda’s office every day.

Then Cyril chose to leave.
As soon as he got off the plane, shareholders surrounded him, forcing him to resign.
Cyril’s expression was grim as he signed a betting agreement with them.
If he couldn’t earn back two billion in six months, he’d voluntarily hand over Prescott Corporation. But if he succeeded, no one could oppose any of his future decisions.
Cyril became a workaholic again, practically living at the company. He personally handled all major collaborations.
He traveled constantly, both domestically and internationally, working around the clock. At his worst, he slept less than four hours in three days.
He often felt dizzy or experienced complete blackouts.
He thought it was just from working too hard and didn’t pay attention to it.
Six months passed in a flash. Cyril exceeded the agreement’s requirements, leaving the shareholders speechless before they started flattering and praising him.
They thought Cyril truly cared about the company, which was why he worked so desperately.
In reality, Cyril did all of this for Freda.
