Chapter 5

“My God! Seventy-five million! Who can transfer that much cash instantly?”

The dinner guests erupted in exclamations.

The butler wiped cold sweat from his forehead.

He answered a phone call, responding briefly before putting it on speaker: “Lord Kingston says he won’t let Miss Skylar lose. He’ll

cover all of Miss Skylar’s stakes today.”

Each word was crystal clear, striking the hearts of everyone present.

“The Kingston family! Is it the Kingston family I’m thinking of?!”

“Who else could produce seventy-five million? This isn’t like Raelyn’s little boyfriend-this is a real power player!”

“Raelyn, you should just give up. The Kingston family not only has money but also holds grudges. If you offend them, your life will become very difficult.”

A buzzing filled Raelyn’s ears as she stared intently at Knox.

The man continued smiling as if uninvolved, watching with interest as Skylar’s tears turned to smiles. He looked like a predator eyeing his prey.

Raelyn felt a wave of absurdity wash over her.

She put up her two estates: “Eighty million. I’m in.”

Within five minutes, another ten million was transferred.

The Kingston family had the resources to crush Raelyn completely, yet they chose to torture her with this slight advantage.

Raelyn finally broke down, tears welling up in her eyes.

The man seemed to suddenly remember that he was Raelyn’s fiancé.

He apologetically put his arm around her shoulders.

“I’m sorry, Ray-Ray. I’m just a poor guy-I don’t have the ability to help you place bets.”

“Look, since this situation started because of me, I’ll talk to Skylar and suggest we void this bet.”

Raelyn’s entire body trembled with emotion.

Poor guy? No ability?

The man in front of her was the cause of this whole situation.

Whether as her fiancé or as the mysterious Lord Kingston, he was determined to trample her dignity in the mud.

Raelyn struggled against his hold: “I won’t give up. It’s just a bet-I’ll keep going…”

Knox frowned and gripped her arm: “Ray-Ray, don’t be rash. There’s no need to sacrifice everything for a little pride, right?”

Raelyn squeezed her eyes shut.

The Blackstone family’s bride price was already in her possession.

If she were willing to sacrifice everything, even Knox couldn’t compete with her.

But doing so would make her arranged marriage replacement public…

But no matter what, she really didn’t want to lose this bet. After all, this was her first chance ever to win by taking something Skylar truly valued…

Before she could speak, surprisingly, the grandmother intervened.

Her expression toward Raelyn was complex as she reprimanded Skylar.

“That’s enough, Skylar, stop this nonsense. Knox makes a good point-it wasn’t fair of me to give you the bracelet without considering

Raelyn.”

“I’ll keep the bracelet for now.”

“Since the prize no longer exists, this bet is void. Consider it a joke between sisters-everyone takes back what’s theirs.”

Knox raised an eyebrow.

Raelyn caught a flash of disappointment in his eyes.

She pulled away from him, her nails digging deep into her palm.

Beyond humiliation, she felt overwhelming regret.

She should never have saved Knox-letting him die in that alley would have been better for everyone.

After the dinner, Raelyn refused Knox’s offer to accompany her and walked home alone.

She didn’t want to see anyone’s sympathetic or mocking glances.

By the riverside, she suddenly noticed two figures on the opposite bank-Knox and Skylar.

Knox asked Skylar: “Do you regret breaking up with me?”

“What if I do? What if I don’t?” Skylar’s voice was hard. “You’re about to marry Raelyn, and I’m being forced to marry that dying

Blackstone man. We have no future.”

Knox’s voice took on a coaxing tone: “Just say you were wrong, and I can solve both problems.”

Skylar laughed coldly: “You’re just an ordinary guy. As if anything you say matters. You don’t actually think you’re Lord Kingston, do

you?”

“If it weren’t for him tonight, I would have been utterly humiliated, you know that? Knox, this is all your fault. I hate you.”

Raelyn remained silent.

Knox had already resolved the situation, yet he deliberately didn’t tell Skylar.

He preferred to pretend in front of her, acting as if he deeply loved the sister she despised.

All of this was to make Skylar bow her head and say she was sorry.

And Raelyn was simply the sacrificial pawn in Knox and Skylar’s power game.

Watching Knox reach out his hand to Skylar in an attempt to win her back, Raelyn dialed Knox’s number-whatever Knox was about

to do, interrupting him now was the wise choice. What if he was about to reveal his true identity?

That would ruin the game.
