Chapter 9

Before Raelyn could speak, Knox exclaimed in shock: “So soon?”

He gripped Raelyn’s hand with unprecedented force.

He actually looked somewhat reluctant to let her go.

Skylar’s face turned pale. She collapsed onto the sofa, grabbing Julian’s sleeve.

“Brother, I’m scared. What if the Blackstone heir dies right after I marry him?”

Julian pulled Skylar into his arms.

“That won’t happen. Don’t worry. How could I let you go through something like that…”

As he spoke, he looked at Raelyn.

Yet he saw no fear in his biological sister’s eyes-only mockery.

He suddenly felt his face burning with shame and couldn’t meet her gaze.

Raelyn went upstairs. In the second-floor common living room sat the wedding dress that had already been custom-made.

Skylar had never tried it on.

If she had, she would have discovered it wasn’t even her size.

Knox embraced Raelyn from behind.

“Ray-Ray, go to bed early tonight. We need to get up early tomorrow to send Skylar off to her wedding.”

He couldn’t see Raelyn’s expression.

He only felt that holding Raelyn in his arms tonight, he strangely didn’t want to let go.

But he quickly dismissed this feeling.

He had already arranged everything-he would rescue Raelyn later.

Then he would be Raelyn’s savior.

He believed Raelyn would see him as her only support. Even if he married Skylar, Raelyn would never escape

his

grasp.

But that night, Knox didn’t sleep well.

He had a rare dream about that alley.

He dreamed of escaping from his enemies’ hands, and a girl bending down to hold him in her arms.

The warm body temperature passed through the dream to his heart.

It jolted him awake, sitting up in bed.

The phone rang at that moment.

His subordinate’s voice came through, full of panic:

16:22

“Lord Kingston, we went to Miss Raelyn’s room but couldn’t find her.”

“She ran away?! Damn it, who leaked the information?”

“No, sir, we asked Julian. He said Miss Raelyn has already left in the Blackstone family’s wedding car.”

Knox abruptly stood up.

But in his panic, he lost his footing on the stairs and fell hard from the second floor. Suddenly, an intense pain shot through both his

legs.

Knox clutched his legs, rolling on the ground in agony.

It felt as if someone had forcibly broken them. The bone-deep pain left him covered in cold sweat.

But Knox didn’t make a sound, slowly enduring the suffering.

He hadn’t achieved his current status through education or sitting in an office reviewing reports.

He had fought and schemed his way to the top.

When Skylar broke up with him because of his poverty, he swore to make her regret it.

This determination had carried him through one life-or-death situation after another.

Now, with victory in sight-Skylar had given him her heart and surrendered to his true identity and power-why would such an accident happen at this critical moment?

拍

But there was something else that concerned Knox even more-what had actually happened? Wasn’t Raelyn supposed to be preparing for her wedding with him? Why had she gotten into the Blackstone family’s wedding car?

When had she planned all this?

He had spent nearly every day with Raelyn, yet hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

Knox’s driver hurriedly came to find him.

He helped the man up from the floor:

“Lord Kingston? What happened? Should I call a doctor right away?”

“I’m fine.” Knox tried to stand with the driver’s help. “There’s something more important for you to do. Send someone to the

Blackstone family to find out how far the wedding ceremony has progressed.”

“Also, find Julian. I have questions for him.”

But what Knox never expected was that his legs wouldn’t respond at all.

The driver, noticing his abnormal expression, asked anxiously:

“Lord Kingston, what’s wrong? Are your legs numb? Let me help you up slowly.”

Knox pinched his leg hard.

His face instantly changed.

He couldn’t feel anything

at all!

Everything had happened so suddenly, giving him an immediate sense of foreboding.

Ignoring the cold sweat breaking out on his back, he grabbed the driver’s collar.

“Take me to the hospital! RIGHT NOW!”
