The Last Starlight
Chapter 1
To outsiders, I chased after Chad Brennan for
three years, always failing.
But only he and I knew that we had been in a
secret relationship for three years.
At a party, people asked me if I was willing to
remain single forever if I couldn’t win Chad
over.
Even Chad himself chuckled and said, “I know
a lot of people. How about your big brother
introduces someone for you to mess around
with?”
In my past life, I couldn’t take it anymore and
L
exposed our relationship today.
Transfer student Chloe Monroe ran out
crying.
Chad didn’t say anything on the surface, but
privately, he became increasingly cold
towards me.
After we got married, when I was pregnant
and got into a car accident, being pushed
into the operating room, he was in the
Maldives, enjoying himself with Chloe.
When I was sent to the crematorium with one
corpse and two lives, he was celebrating
Chloe’s birthday at a Michelin restaurant.
That’s when I realized that he never truly
loved me.

Reborn, I smiled and said, “No need, I’m
already engaged.”
Everyone fell silent, almost instinctively
looking towards Chad.
Chad leaned back on the sofa, his lazy
posture stiffening slightly.
Then, he scoffed, “That’s great, saves you
from chasing after me all day, annoying me.”
I smiled faintly, not responding.
The atmosphere became awkward. To liven
things up, the friend who organized the
gathering shouted, “Come on, let’s continue
the game! It’s your turn, Chad!”
“The task is–choose a person of the
opposite sex present and kiss them for 30
seconds!”
It should have been an ambiguous game that
everyone would cheer for.
But the scene fell silent again.
Because there were only two people of the
opposite sex present.
One was me.
The other was the transfer student, Chloe
Monroe.
Everyone knew that I had been at odds with
her since Chloe transferred to our school.
- The friend who led the game laughed
awkwardly, “Chad, how about we just have a
drink instead…”
“No need.”
Chad put out the cigarette in his hand without
any hesitation. He turned and grabbed the
back of Chloe’s head with one hand and
kissed her.
Chloe let out a deer–like exclamation, closing
her eyes shyly the next second.
When the kiss ended, Chad lay back on the
sofa, his eyes fixed on me.
“It’s just a game, not like I can’t afford to
play.”
The people around laughed and echoed his
words.
The friend sitting next to me gave me a
comforting look.
I was about to say something when my phone
in my pocket vibrated.
It was a text message.
[Are you home yet?]
Seeing this, I stood up from the sofa and said
to the people around me, “I have something
to do, I’ll leave first.”
After speaking, I didn’t waste any time and
<
left the private room.
